The confiscation meme is starting to worry me, /pmg/.

PM moons almost always coincide with fiscal crises, and even though governments probably won't confiscate gold specifically to enact a gold standard (that's likely the last thing they want), they WILL want to own as much gold themselves as possible, so as to help them finance their own liabilities.

And they definitely will seek to curtail the use of gold as a currency or store of value. Even if they don't actually go door to door in the way American right-wing boomers are always fretting/fantasizing about when it comes to guns, they absolutely can shut down online sales and deals, they can establish a phony government exchange value to legally rob you, they can do their best to prevent you from taking it overseas.

Imagine not merely owning silver, but owning a company which will give you silver ounces on a regular basis, for years or even decades. That is why SILJ is 3x leverage to silver, and small-caps can be 10x, 20x, or 30x leverage. Silver went 10x in the 00-11 bull market, but First Majestic went 150x. The same thing will happen this time. DSV, for example, has 1 billion ounces of silver in the ground; GSR 1:15 would make those word 72 million ounces of gold. When you buy DSV, you buy a part of that. That's why Eric Sprott, who is one of the greatest silver bulls in the world, has sunk an enormous 60 million dollars in the company (and his net-worth is only a billion).

But I'm not the paperfag. I still prefer physical because if you don't hold it you don't own it is true all the same, and even though in normal times ETFs are almost certainly better than phys generally, in abnormal times like this (which are of course the times you really want PMs) there is too much paper chasing too little IRL metal and so you the little guy will be last in line to actually cash out.

Basically both have massive negatives, but at least with physical PMs you can actually take it out of the system, even if in practice there are obstacles there too.

I don't think that they can get away with confiscation this time. The internet is exposing them and their financial mismanagement to such an extent that there would be a revolution. This isn't 2011 any more, when the only people buying gold and silver are people who listen to Alex Jones or read ZeroHedge. The money printer meme is everywhere. In any event, the more concerned you are about confiscation, the more active you should be in spreading the word about PMs and trying to get them into as many different hands as possible. The more people own gold and silver, the greater the number who will resist any tyrannical orders to hand it over.

Yes, but at negative real interest rates, Treasuries will be locking holders into *losing* money. Would make sense, because who would be stupid enough to buy treasuries right now and keep buying them as yields and the dollar are plunging to record lows. Yields nearly spiked to 1% at the beginning of May, but have been going down ever since; would make sense that the curve has been manipulated since then. They may be doing additional Q. They don't actually have to implement ycc to get the effect. If they say they might implement it if the ten year yield gets too high, traders will buy it up because they have a put at 80bps of 1%. That's why yields have been falling, they intentionally gave an implicit limit order to the market. The Fed doesn't really care about yields further out than the 10y

The spike looks highly anomalous to me. Bear in mind that if it got even a little higher than that, and stayed there, the market would have crashed. 3% yields crashed the market in late 2018, and that was before they printed an extra seven trillion and inflated the asset-bubbles to a far greater extent. Why normies will not buy until it's too late and will get FINANCIALLY RUINED by inflation:

1) MOST OF US WILL NOT TELL THEM

Talking about PMs especially positively hints at the fact that you hold them, which presents a theft risk. Anyone who holds them has a strong incentive to never tell anyone, not even close friends or family. Your Dad who you trust tells your Mom who you kinda trust who tells your cousin who you don't trust at all who tells Tyrone. So you don't tell your Dad, and your Dad doesn't buy any PMs and gets wiped out by inflation.

2) THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT TELL THEM

Goes without saying, governments don't like anyone but them owning PMs for obvious reasons. This is why schools, financial advice bureaus, national TV stations etc. don't and won't promote PMs.

3) FINANCIAL ADVISERS WILL NOT TELL THEM

Financial advisers and brokers won't advise their clients to buy PMs because there's little profit there. Anyone who understands PMs quickly realizes they can invest in them on their own. It's a rock, you buy it online from mints or eBay, done. No profit really for the middle-man compared to the commission these guys take every time they buy a stock bond or ETF.

4) (((GOLD MERCHANTS))) WILL TELL THEM, BUT WILL BE MISTRUSTED

Since the only people with an actual incentive to encourage PM investment and purchase IRL are actual unironic gold shills like Schiff, the average person won't trust them. They will suspect a wholly selfish motive and often steer clear. "What's their angle".

So basically the average person isn't going to buy, maybe not even when inflation starts to bite. They will buy all kinds of other things first: food, guns and ammunition, alcohol. They will only possibly start getting in when banks and institutional investors have already picked the market clean.

There is essentially no way to change this situation as a whole, except in isolated and individual cases.

I think we'll get some corrections still. I've been into gold since 2006 and while I obviously haven't seen this movie before, I have seen the ups and downs. For example, if we see wild downward movement in the stock market again like we saw earlier in the year, gold and silver stocks will crash too. The miners will get hit really hard. But after that reckoning, we'll see a huge bull run I bet. I guess I say that to say that I still believe people have some time to get into metals and to spread out their buying.

Even without the theft risk issue, the tragedy is that we all have an incentive to discourage anyone else from buying, I mean we probably would individually want to help our friends and family (without the theft risk), but especially on an institutional level, there is NO incentive for anyone to advocate it. Because anyone else is a competitor.

Even say a commercial news or TV station with both no ties to the government OR a financial group with a specific interest in the public not buying PMs still isn't going to advocate it. Why? Because anyone with an interest in buying PMs' interests are diametrically opposed to those of potential PM investors.

If I am the owner or major shareholder of a broadcaster or newspaper who thinks there are serious problems with the monetary system, do I have an interest in seeing other people buy PMs? No, of course not. In fact, the more concerned I am, likely the more I want to get my hands on as much cheap PMs as I possibly can, rather than the general public. I might not consciously keep the public in the dark, but am I going to be motivated to do much to get others to buy them? I'm not an expert on the COMEX, but because it was the first gold exchange in the US, everyone uses the quotes from it to determine physical metal prices. HOWEVER, the leverage to physical is pretty big on the comex. Basically, if new money flows into the comex to take long positions on silver or gold, traders will sell them those contracts without having the actual metal to back the contract because they know it's unlikely they'll request delivery. This means (theoretically) that the long interest on metals could double without effecting the supply because paper gold and silver has an infinite supply. Add on to this that a large portion of the gold in NY vaults is actually owned by someone else and leased to the traders and you can see how the price isn't the real market price. There's a ton of naked short interest that is soaking up the liquidity trying to go into the real asset, which prevents the price from rising like it would naturally.

The very fact that you and others got shaken out on a day when silver was up 10% is evidence that the bull market hasn't even started yet. Silver is still only going up because of the easing of manipulation. If silver plunged even to 23 dollars, and stayed there for six months, the earnings for the companies in SILJ would be so remarkable that SILJ would double or triple. To say nothing of what SILJ is going to do at $28 or $29 silver, or even $50 or $100 silver. People don't have the faintest idea how undervalued these mining stocks are yet. The only reason why silver isn't the most undervalued asset on the planet is because silver mining stocks exist.

Craig Hemke lays it out very well and detailed in the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EOPKizJ_Y4
The gist is that JPM inherited a very large naked short silver position in the COMEX from Bear Stearns. Over a period of 5 years or so, they slowly took delivery of silver contracts to build up 150 million ounces which allowed them to write 30,000 contracts. They have been using that 30k contract market power to swing the market, first by shorting and then buying out the shorts. They were able to use their position to make a lot of money on a quarterly basis doing this. But when the gold market died during March due to widening spreads, it spread to silver. Now people are standing for delivery rather than rolling contracts. JPM just had to settle 30 million ounces of silver, which menas they just lost 20% of their market making power. And open interests are ridiculous right now meaning September is going to be a monster of a delivery month. Either the big banks lose their silver, or the get COMEX to change the rules including maybe a force majeure (payout in cash rather than metal). Even if they survive September, December will be bigger. It's starting to look like the days of the COMEX are over, because it is difficult to see how they could delivery that much physical silver. We're still at over 600 million ounces of silver still open for potential delivery in September. Do they even have it? If so, are they willing to part with it? It's possible that this destroys the credibility of the COMEX and gold and silver prices decouple from these manipulated markets.

This is false thinking. You're not looking at the fundamentals. SPA has 10 million ounces of gold in the ground. At today's price of gold, that gives it a true market-cap 8x its current price. I was recommending it here when it was 0.30 CAD. It was up 11% on that day also. Be a value-investor, not a dip-buyer. Sprott invested in it for a reason.

If your reason for not buying a mining stock is that it's up 11%, what are you going to do when it goes up 11% the next day, and the day after that, and the day after that? At what point do you simply get in? In the end, what matters is the size of your position, not splitting-hairs about the entry-point. I told people to buy SPA at 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, and at every step of the way people kept saying that it had gone up too much already.

They flinch like a beaten dog, expecting the banks to push pms back down.

The market doesn't think it's real yet.

It is volatile. It can have small swings of 5%+ in a day and I think the worst I saw was when it went 12% down in a day. When I'm paying attention though, I have noticed that it sometimes inverses my other miners. Last week every miner I own was down and DSV was up 13% or some shit. DYOR but I'm in with them for the long haul.

Honestly, Vietnam doesn't seem too bad, I hear there's a demand for IT workers. Eastern Europe doesn't seem bad either.

They might have their problems, but any country that has experienced the shit of communism isn't likely to fall back into it for at least a few more decades at least.

I wanted to give up, but you guys pissed so badly today that I renewed my shorts again and again at higher price.

Now I'm 1,271 in profit. If it reverses again I will again quit at BE and renew at higher price until I'm rich.

Up down. However the trend is positive for the year. You will make money. But you'll also be up 700$ one day and down the next. Overall it's been good for my account though.

So your strategy is to short the most high volatility major commodities while their fundamentals are at their best in a decade?
