Not that long. A few short weeks of lurking, some small test buys and watch them. Try to get into the crypto space as a whole by reading whitepapers, checking devs on twitter and github etc to see if they're legit/active. You don't have to understand everything, but you have to get a feeling for what's a scam and what's not, what has a usecase, what marketcap means, identifying PnDs etc.

I'm really not sure about link, but in your position I'd probabaly advice against buying in now. Even if it continues to climb, you won't make 10x or 100x soon - I guess.

Personally I'm a fan of small, cheap, low marketcap coins that always come with a great risk but can yield incredible rewards. Don't go all in on one coin, everything can fail.
