20765300 No.20765300 [Reply] [Original]

I'm a developer and I looked over the Chainlink white paper and documentation, as well as the blog post by Google. Here's a few reasons I would not use Chainlink for my own apps:

The current "mainnet" is not decentralized. there's no way to decentrally assess if an oracle is any good or not.

It took them 2 years to basically build centralized oracles, which is extremely unimpressive (and already exists). I do not have much hope for the future or the competency of their engineers.

The white paper doesn't coherently describe how they plan on making their centralized design decentralized one day. They broadly go over their "decentralized" reputation strategies as if creating sybil resistant decentralized reputation is something of an afterthought, when it's actually an unsolved computer science problem. They've had 2-3 years and 30mil in funding to actually publish technical specifications for this and instead they decided to build trivial centralized oracles. Extremely worrying. It kind of reminds me of IOTA "we'll remove the coordinator later". No you won't. You don't know how.

News outlet and journalists keep reporting on "partnerships" with Google and Swift. But if you actually read the source for the "partnership", it's just a blog post by Google Cloud that promotes their own service (BigQuery) and shows an example about how Chainlink users can use Google Cloud if they want. In no way is Google partnered or planning on using Chainlink themselves. The Chainlink codebase is extremely trivial to rebuild if Google wanted to get into the blockchain oracle space.

While there's certainly profits to be made by trading Chainlink, I recommend you do not HODL it with the hope that one day developers will adopt it as their source for decentralized oracles. That certainly won't happen.

You mean it's not a revolutionary alt coin that's going to take the world by storm, despite there being literally hundreds of dead projects that had similar levels of delusion over the years? Gasp

I feel bad for the noobs. Hope they at least get out break even and don't beat themselves up for letting one of their few easy 10x investments in their lifetime slip away because of fucktard moonboys on reddit giving them false hope.

(Yes I've been burned in the past lol.)

I would read the Google blog post on your own and make up your own mind. They make it pretty clear that:

in Google's previous work on using blockchain tech to help GCP customers analyze indexed blockchain data, they were limited to data that was on-chain to begin with to then use in off-chain business activities. They state this explicitly:

However, these applications share a common attribute: they're all using the crypto public datasets as an input to an off-chain business process.

Google wants to go further than just using on-chain data for off-chain business needs. Again they state explicitly that they want to use smart contracts on-chain that take data from the real-world (or off-chain):

In contrast, a business process implemented as a smart contract is performed on-chain, and that is of limited utility without having access to off-chain inputs. To close the loop and allow bidirectional interoperation, we need to be not only making blockchain data programmatically available to cloud services, but also cloud services programmatically available on-chain to smart contracts.

Google used Chainlink to do so:

Below, we'll demonstrate how a specific smart contract platform (Ethereum) can interoperate with our enterprise cloud data warehouse (BigQuery) via oracle middleware (Chainlink).

Again this is all explicitly stated in the blog post. It's stated in the first section of the blog post at the top of the page for anyone interested. The bet you're making in buying Chainlink is whether companies will use Chainlink's pre-supplied code to meet their needs.

In most "overhyped" projects, the company will tend to overhype its usually large community of followers about deals/opportunity.

As we use mostly Twitter in the CryptoSphere, I decided ot investigate this media and their latest reports.

$LINK Marines (HODLers and Believers in Chainlink) are the basis of their social media presence. As for any project, most are probably hopeful investors/enthusiasts in the $LINK Project.

Chainlink Official account is one of the least followed on Twitter out of the Top 20 CryptoProjects.

But having less than70k Twitter Followers is not preventing them from getting close to 2k likes per tweet (twice Ripple's).

If we do some quick calculation, taking the least popular Chainlink's tweets:

Ripple has 1000 likes for 1mn follower : 0.1%
CZ from Binance has 500 likes for 500k followers: 0.1%
Chainlink has 1000 likes for 67k followers: 1.5%

In addition, it has been shared and liked a lot. Looking at some of the likes, we can see that there are a lot of weird accounts a.k.a bots liking their tweets? What about these Partnerships and Deals?
image.png

Lately, Chainlink announced a partnership with T-systems (some subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom focused on Blockchain Technologies) Reading the PR from T-systems it is written:

By providing real-world data into the Chainlink network, T-Systems MMS engages in a form of infrastructure provisioning also known as “Generalized Mining”, where it provides an IT service to a blockchain network while getting rewarded in digital assets for reliably doing so. As the value locked on the application level such as DeFi is significant, such IT services play an important role in the overall Ethereum ecosystem.
So, Chainlink is communicating on "Buying" datas from Deutsche Telekom. But you would have to open the PR to understand fully the extent.

I even got a response from @T-systems

Just reading their pinned tweet: "Google is one of the great companies integrating #Chainlink into their approach for smart contract adoption"

If you do not open the link, you would think Google is involved into integrating some kind of project with Chainlink.

Well, I read the PR. It is just a Blog post from google Cloud explaining how you can do a smart contract linking Ethereum, Google Cloud solutions and a Chainlink oracle.

I could sum up this article as written in the blog post

How to use the BigQuery Chainlink oracle

In this section we'll describe how useful applications can be built using Google Cloud and Chainlink.
After being targeted by Zeus Capital Report, Chainlink began announcing a lot of partnerships/deals/integrations.

The latest being one with a group of South Korean Banks. Same thing, big announcement here

>> No.20765480

>>20765464
In the blog we can read :Chainlink also all works with large enterprises such as Google, Oracle, and SWIFT.

Well.. We went over the google "partnership" I think... Overhyping once again.

In addition, the tweet suggest Chainlink has been selected. Well we do not know if there was a competitor and more importantly, except if I misunderstand Chainlink is once AGAIN buying datas from these banks !

Well, the 2nd part is over.

We are still waiting answers from Chainlink's team concerning the Zeus Report and I will update you as soon as we do.

What we can conclude is that Chainlink is indeed promoting very actively even small events and seems to have a way to benefit from increased interactions and coverage on social media to share its PRs. It is a Russian pump and dump scam going to zero.

Chainlink?....where do i start.

they used swift and other logos on their marketing misleading people to buy the token.

The team dumps 1million link on heads a month just like Ripple

The only usage is when the chainlink team makes a price feed contract and shoves it down a defi projects throat. Everyone that thinks chainlink has customers. Lets see how many customers stick around when they have to start charging.

you said what went wrong...what went wrong is you are still holding after it went from 30mil to 1.5 billion. The money has been made on link. There are better projects with a hell of a lot more upside.

Do you want me to continue?

5) Chainlink claims to be decentralized yet team holds more than half the supply

6) Chainlink claims to be decentralized but runs every single chainlink oracle contract (what happens if chainlink forgets to fill up eth or link?)

7) Chainlink is all big on "oh were blockchain agnostic" meanwhile there is no other blockchains getting 1/10 the traction as Ethereum. Blockchain agnosticism is a meme.

8) The link token was supposed to be needed due to erc677 transfer and call. Not one customer is using transfer and calls as they are only pulling prices from reference contracts ran by centralized chainlink team.

9). It's been over a year since main net. The biggest customer is some dopey defi platforms. Yet sergey will use swift and facebook libra on slides.

Shall I continue?

10.). Type in $link on twitter, you won't find a more cringe community. I keep seeing "we're so early" from soccer moms from Chattanooga. Meanwhile most OG link holders have moved on.

11.). If Chainlink is doing so well, ask any of the customers for the info on what they are paying to use chainlink. You will never get an answer because they are using for free. They have to pay by advertising they use and pay for chainlink.

12. Meanwhile none of the "sponsors" have to even hold the link token...so what's the point?

13. Speaking of link token many think they will get to stake their link, they won't. Staking may come to the pre-selected nodes but it won't mean much to the 99% of holders.

14. Speaking of 21 nodes, why only 21? There are 100+ more on chainlink node listing sites that still to this day don't have any usage. Meanwhile those operators are losing money in infrastructure costs...muh demand

Shall i go on?

15. They are partnered with the CCP now and have clearly put all of their focus on pleasing Xi. You think it's still decentralized if chinas using it?

16. They work in the shadows and always say "check the pivotal tracker" then just randomly release stuff.

17. Speaking of the pivotal...There's no tasks at all anymore and staking isn't even live

18. The CEO uses buzzwords and talks about the price going "vertical" for years in many presentations

19. The CEO used the exact same slides for 3 years and always Justin Sunn'd the price up before presentations and dumped 700k tokens (then) and 1.2MM tokens (now)

Shall I go on?

>> No.20766400

20. They went from having meetings in basements with 20 nobodies to doing poorly done YouTube Q&As with projects no one cares about.

21. They keep promoting their VFR random number generator as revolutionary. This has already been done on Etherum and ETH's is ACTUALLY random

22. Peeling back the layers of the GitHub you see they really just used random() which is built into solidity

23. Their oracle's are the center of the project and have already been reverse engineered by much more advanced teams like Band and RLC

24. They spend over 2MM dollars a week on a small team of people with no CS background to build programs to order pizza.

(Yes seriously) https://github.com/smartcontractkit/external-adapters-js/commit/4d70c30ca675ca8d09233943e95a240f6a043480
