Intel has a 95%+ market share for data center CPUs and it's not like everybody will randomly just fucking switch over, these guys have contracts for years out. But the main point here is that Intel isn't worth a $45 company in a world where profits and market reach matters a lot. And that's why they're okay with outsourcing shit, sometimes you have to make some radical decisions to keep going. And yeah, their management and business practices are frankly trash tier as well but at this point think of them as "too big to fail" and you have more potential gains from Intel LEAPs than TSM/AMD holds (after it already pumped 15%).

the next best catalyst, other than next earnings, is for news on the US Arizona plant. TSM needs incentives for them to actually build a true cutting-edge (much more expensive than the $12 billion or something that was initially planned for the plant, never mind expensive US wages) considering the plant will take a couple years to finish (so building just a plant for 5 nm right now will make it obsolete once it's actually complete)

I'm worried I chose too close a exp for my $52c for Aug 7th but INTC is so oversold right now there's absolutely no way there isn't a small rally between now and then. I'm considering if rolling into a longer dated call at a higher strike would be a better option when that happens. Keep in mind that outsourcing to TSM is not as easy as it sounds though. Intel can't just shift their CPUs to TSM's processes, and a redesign will take time.

To my understanding the outsourcing was done years ago to sustain their server/desktop product demand while their in-house tried to pivot into moonshot projects in order to avoid the crash of demand in desktop PCs that the tech industry has been predicting for the past decade. So far, nothing intel has tried in IoT, gpus, and mobile computing has ever made it past the prototype stage, so now they have no choice but to rely on their oursourced foundries since they're so fucking behind.
