So 1 cup of coffee costs about 0.0001 BTC. How am I supposed to actually buy the coffee with the BTC? Is there an app that reliably translates BTC into euro/usd in order to do payments in real time at the coffeeshop so nobody has to waste time doing calculations?
I'm all for mass adoption of crypto but I still don't understand the steps that'll make it widely accessible, if there are any.
Can someone pls fill me up on this?
and yes im retarded

>>20631336
also would chainlink be involved to reliably translate the price?

Hard to use BTC as a medium of exchange when it's such a volatile asset. No one wants to spend their BTC on coffee today when it could go up 100 USD tomorrow. Same problem with things like LINK. Businesses will not want to be forced to transact in LINK to run their business when the price is fluctuating significantly daily.

so basically crypto will never be widely adopted?
or
isnt the volatility just consequence of an "early" market? as it establishes itself further into society, we will see a stable price and only then itll be used for everyday stuff?

bitcoin will probably stabilize a lot once the market cap grows beyond golds.
and after it becomes stable it will probably be locked in smart contracts to create stable coins on sidechains to do micro transactions with.

we will see, most importantly we will see if lightning delivers on it's promises in the next decade or dies out.

i bought 4chan pass for a friend with btc once. but frankly buying coffee is the least of my problem and not at all why i hold bitcoin. i'm more concerned about the dual threat of inflation and confiscation by state authority. bitcoin is the only thing i know i can take with myself if i have to run. house stocks bank account gold bars that shit will be taken.

There are 100s of crypto credit cards now that use MasterCard and Visa to instantly spend your crypto balance as if were just money. Look into Wirex, Crypto dot com card, TenX, Crypterium... Mass commercial adoption is 2 years away.

the basic issue is distributed routing on a mesh topology is infinitely hard.
so lightning can take on a more centralized topology (very likely that exchanges will be the central hubs) or at least get more centralized but efficient routing.

Would you use gold to buy a cup of coffee?
Even though BTC is easier to use than that, but that's the closes thing to it.

There's other blockchains that are developed specifically to be used for everyday transactions

you can use it for payments but it does not offer any advantage over other methods for micro payments for now.

where bitcoin shines is being an unconfiscateable store of value that can be transacted permissionless without a trusted middle man. it's yet to become a really good store of value altho it's been a long time i have been down on my holdings.

basically coinbase and other exchanges will be the biggest central bitcoin hubs they will be like banks but the important thing is your relationship with them using lightning is non-custodial thus trustless.

there remains the problem with the dust limit tho so lightning on bitcoin may not take off after all. but any sidechain of bitcoin could adopt it also.

I get what you're saying but the aim of this thread is more to see if mass adoption of crypto is actually a possibility. like one world currency. Or was that never the intention?

i'm a bitcoin maxi but i call bullshit on full global adoption. never gonna happen. it's won't even be a widespread medium of exchange.

it will at best be the reserve currency of the surviving shitcoin ecosystem.

>if mass adoption of crypto is actually a possibility
it is but it won't be any single crypto. crypto as a technology will be adopted but this adoption can take many many forms and faces. libra looks like a crpyto but it's a corporate sovereign digital currency aimed to lock down a huge market segment. central banks will issue smart contract capable fiat tokens but it's supply will be flexible of course not like bitcoins.

lightning uses smart contract payment channels that hold the coins in escrow to prevent double spend. but there is trustless exit on-chain so even tho your lock in your coins you know you will get them back eventually (at least what you didn't spent)

a single ln payment channel can do about 25k tx/sec (this is of course a bench test case) you can set up say 500 ln channels per block so about 70k channels per day and each of them can do 25k tx/s after a day bitcoin as a theoretical max could do 1.27 billion tx/s.

with 1mb blocks (+2 with segwit)
