You are correct anon. It's also the reason why precious metals have been going nuts. Typically they don't go hand in hand with the market like this.
We are in an everything-bubble and with insane future inflation and non stop stimulus and printing, the market will continue to go up. Once the fed loses its power, the madness will end but who knows when that will be.
Not to be a doomsey but the fed will continue to pull out the last of its tools until infinite printing will no longer hold. We are seeing the end of the current fiat dollar but I imagine this can still last for years

1) Growth stocks and Contracts with timing the market (Risky and most active, but most fun. You'll probably lose. Everyone usually starts here.)
2) HLOD strategy (in which you invest in companies and never sell)
3) Dividends
4) Index and mutual funds

All are valid strategies. So long as you stick to your strategy, you'll make it.
The biggest issue is that people try to time the market at the best times.
If you are one of the very few people who can time the market and produce gains, then go for 1. Odds are though, you'll just buy yourself an expensive education.
It's good to try a strategy at least once.

You're missing an important point. Yields aren't rising. Australia officially turned on YCC, but hasn't needed to buy any bonds since March. The market is keeping rates low because of a lack of liquidity, so banks buy the most liquid instruments (bonds, gold, stocks). That alone explains the bull in stocks and gold, and why rates stay low even without intervention.

Think about this rationally, if you could beat the market while getting a high dividend, there would be no reason for the average investor to be in anything else. You pay a premium for the income by lowered performance. In the case I outlined here the premiums are twice that of MSFT's which is comparable in the same sector as NFLX.
The higher the dividend yield the worse this premium tends to be. The covered call is already vastly superior "income" to the dividend. And traditional and ROTH IRAs allow you to treat this income identically to dividends. I picked a "year out" to give the same tax benefits.
150K of NFLX stock with covered calls will "yield" 30K/year with a worst case "bonus" of 15K year from being assigned. Any dividend strategy requires several times the amount of invested capital.

The reason why most new stocks avoid dividends is for tax purposes. Stock price increases are unrealized gains, so rather than getting income from them, shareholders will borrow against their shares as collateral to avoid having to pay taxes on a stock sale.

You can technically pull a line of credit against a stock at a super low interest rate (the richer/wealthier you are, the lower your rate). So the rich just borrow and spend against their shares. When it comes time to paying the debts back, they roll over the debt by creating yet another line of credit against their existing shares. Since by then, the share price has increased, they get to pay off their initial debts with even cheaper credit.

The trick is to never sell, and to trick others into buying your overpriced shares until you hit the inevitable brick wall that is credit contraction. That is the current environment we're in.

>> No.20575217

What is your point? You can find holdings that don't fit the purpose in any ETF. Dividend ETFs have to include low dividend growth stocks or else they would suffer even worse performance. MSFT still isn't a dividend stock outside a autistic technical definition of it.
>>20575066
>What about the chart of the S&P 500 vs S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats?
What about it? You're cherry picking a single index that has a single criteria, it needs to have increasing dividend payouts for 25 consecutive years or more. It only outperformed it by 0.50% over the last ten years but it's still apples and oranges, Div Aristocrats only has less than 100 stocks on it. You should be comparing it to the S&P 100 which has better performance than it.
>I don't know how you can dismiss an entirely viable investment strategy.
It's objectively a poor strategy for everyone besides someone that has no income but has hundreds of thousands worth of capital. It's laughable that people like you suggest some 18 year old with a few hundred dollars to buy them.

>> No.20575255

>>20575198
Buybacks reduce the number of shares so the value of the shares increases. If you were going to give 100 monopoly dollars in dividends but you use them on buybacks the value of the remaining shares increases by 100 monopoly dollars.
The difference however is that if you want income you can then sell your as many shares as the amount of income you want and it would work as a dividend.
Otherwise you don't sell and it's just as if you reinvested it automatically and instantly, without having to pay taxes in between.

>Realized gains over theoretical gains
All dividends are unrealized if they're reinvested which is why it defeats the purpose of doing them. I have no issue with people who don't or can't time the market, but they would be better off in index ETFs instead of whatever dividend fund or div portfolio they created.

The advantage of dividend paying stocks that it keeps the stock prices low. Instead your stock, which should ideally act more like a bond, retains it's price over a long period, and the income you get can be used to pay your bills.

Another advantage to dividend paying stocks is that you get to keep your dividend income in the case that your stock crashes. Say you own a dividend paying stock for 3 years before it crashed. Yes, if you buy a stock specifically for a dividend, you should consider it a dividend stock.
>Hey, there's no need to be upset. We're all wrong from time to time.
It's just pathetic that you're being catty only because you lost the argument so now you're projecting it onto me and refusing to address anything else. Someone that pathetic shouldn't exist.
>>20575574
What definitions did I shift? Dividend stocks =/= an index of 50 dividend stocks. You may as well just pick 5 dividend stocks and claim that dividend stocks beat every index. There's no broad index for dividends because it would be pure trash and no one wants to be associated with it.
>Time to post that portfolio and shut me up once and for all.

I wasn't comparing the two. Just that these gold ETFs and trusts that allow for actual gold exchange are generally considered "better" than those that don't. As long as, in principle, you (or any other shareholder) can get directly and proportionally reimbursed for your shares, it can't be overleveraged.

Pretty sure any major market disruption right now would trigger GFC3, helicopter money, yield curve control and QE Infinity and Beyond. So a short dip, which you should buy, and then EL ULTIMO ENCIERRO, as soon as it bottoms go all in with leverage on anything.

After market earnings generally come out ~15 minutes after market close right? I can probably buy and sell 0 day SPY straddles right after market close and make money if Microsoft goes hard in either direction (since ameritrade lets you trade after market for 15 minutes).

I said originally said:
"The average total return of dividend stocks do not beat the S&P 500, let alone QQQ."
You were the one who cherry picked Dividend Aristocrats index instead of something that at least has a comparable number of stocks. I've been completely consistent with my definition of what is a dividend stock as well.

I already BTFOed you but you're going to keep moving the goal posts to the point we are not even talking about dividends yet you won't even post your own portfolio. I'm up 200% YTD, some of which is realized. My two year return is something like 12x. Now why don't you post something that proves you have even made money?

It's less risky though and both the dividend appreciation and the dividend aristocrats have tracked the SP500 during the last years quite well (although they have lagged since the lockdown crash) and they have outperformed in the past like
>>20576069 points out so he has a point.

>> No.20576431

It's not less risky, the S&P 500 has 450 more stocks than it with much better diversity. A lot of the dividend stocks are failing like XOM and the fewer growth stocks increases the risk of poor future performance. It takes 25 years of increasing dividends to make that index, which is why there are very few tech stocks on it.
