i once had a dream when i was five where there was, in the corner of my room, a rusted oil drum with a faded depiction of flowers in a green field under a blue sky painted on its exterior
the drum was filled with tears, and dandelions were floating on its surface
i knew that something bad was going to happen in this dream, and it did

the dream would recur; i'd see the oil drum in the corner of my room, and look down to my hands—i was holding a collection of butter knives
i was so little; there was no way i could defend myself from anything with such little strength and dull weapons, and i knew it
my door was always shut—the window with its shutters drawn, at sunset
i would wake up from the dreams, and it would be pitch black

i'd fallen from my bed one night during one of these dreams, and had hit my mouth against the floor
blood dripped onto the varnished hardwood boards from where my heavy head had pushed my teeth against my lips
i couldn't tell if i was still in a dream or not
my parents came rushing in as they'd heard my crying—one of them mad at me for falling, and the other caring

that was nearly two decades ago

just thought i'd write it out

i must admit—i hardly hold any RLC
but it's unlikely, at worst, that those of us who will earn "making it" won't all make it
