Why buy BTC? Every norman non-/biz/ crypto board I go to tells all newcomers to buy bitcoin and ethereum exclusively, although the XRP cult is always running amok too. Is there truth to that? I don't see the point when the ROI is going to be so limited

Bitcoin is a 160B marketcap. Currencies/reserve assets has marketcaps in the trillions. Bitcoin still has enormous growth potential, considering current market size, not even future size.

Bitcoin is the safest bet in crypto and a 100x is still in the cards. You are just a gambler who sees coins going 10-100x in a year masturbating your survivor bias. 99% alts will be worthless in 5 years, Bitcoin will still be here and likely much higher valued.

If your portfolio isn’t at least 50% BTC you are either 1) poor, 2) stupid, 3) new

because it's hard for noobs to fuck up when they only buy btc or eth. if they dive into crypto headfirst by buying gaysexcoin on cryptopia, they won't last very long.

Pretty much this. Sure you can make a lot more flipping shitcoins but you have to know what you're doing, and until you've developed a hardened skin (and been scammed at least once) it's not recommended for newbies to do that.

This. Stock to flow has essentially shown the fundamental driving factors behind btc and its screamig that by 2021-22 it will 10x. In a handful more years after that it will 10x again to 1 million per coin. All you have to do is buy, sit, hold and wait as the inflation of btc gets halved while demand keeps going up.

BTC is the gateway to other crypto
Most of the time you buy it to buy something else
Usually I buy ETH instead as mu Fiat onramp
If ETH had more trading pairs I’d use it more as well

did you gentlemen know that btc is no longer the original code?
they changed it to try to make it anonymous. this completely broke the scaling capability.
there is already anonymous coins, of course.
BTC however, needed to become anonymous so that the whales that got in for the silk road, child porn, illegal pump and dumps. etc could eventually cash out without consequence.

Why did they break bitcoin for the interest of a few degenerate whales? Is that our answer to the only realistic solution we've ever had to the central banker cabal?

it is pretty hilarious that dogecoin is better bitcoin that BTC. For those that don't know, dogecoin, litecoin etc all forked off of bitcoin before they broke it to fit the anonymous narrative

Wake up boomers. Bitcoin is 56k dial-up. iExec is 5G.

The red pill is that traditional cryptocurrencies are dead. There is nobody left to buy into a bubble, and the evolution of blockchain technology has left them behind.
It's unreal how big BTC is vs how much of a piece of junk it is.
>muh store of value
Yeah, maybe in 2011. But why would you want to use that slow, centralized piece of shit saturated with old money whales that bart all day when you can use a currency that is sound money AND actually backed by some form of utility? The crypto old guard really missed the mark in this regard. They thought blockchain miner payment-backed crypto had potential as a store of value, and so the market would seek it as sound money. And they were correct in the short term, but they couldn't have predicted that soon there would be sounder money that's also backed by useful, immutable services, because they were used to a separation of "currency" vs "goods and services" within real life, where that is enforced by physical limitations. In the end, blockchains are just a record-keeping tool in the greater context of protocol-based tokens that draw their value from greater data-manipulation organizational efficiency and their mining tokens should only be worth as much as their it takes for the real data industry to keep them running. And data is currency. In the future, EVERYTHING is data.

i literally lost out on hundreds of thousands of dollars by being a bitcoin maximalist lol
as soon as i became ethpilled realized it would be the global settlement standard and went went like 60% erc 20 and now im 226x from where i was literally have almsot made it
btc maximalists are going to be crying andresen has already bent the knee and said BTC will scale up being tokenized on eth, personally i only hold 2 BTC and thats still a huge opportunity loss, but i think the fact its a PoW legacy with good security will make it continue having good performance as store of wealth
