One of the oddest and most troubling events of my wanderings near Barkerville was last year. I was wandering around near the headwaters of summit Creek, looking for old workings following some maps from the 1870s, when I heard a blood curdling scream, and someone call for help. The difficulty with these threads is that they are focused on precious metals and there's not a lot to be said about investing in PMs because they're highly fungible and investing is relatively straightforward. Once everything is said, there's nothing else to do but acquire and wait.

I would imagine things are slow right now because we've had a fairly strong run-up and people are shy about buying more at the current price. Meanwhile, the price has not gone up high enough for people to consider or even talk about selling. So unless the price starts skyrocketing or plummetting, these threads are going to get slower and slower.

One thing that could generate a lot of postings--likely of very low quality--is discussion of mining stocks. If we could get exceptional analysis of mining stocks (understanding geological reports, drill results, as well as typical financials), we would likely all make quite a bit money. That's an extremely rare skill set and all of the professional analysts I've read are no better than a monkey throwing darts at a list.

They're 22 karat gold and very nice coins but they don't quite contain one full ounce of gold. If I remember correctly, gold was $20.67/ozt back when they were minted and at a face value of $20, that means there's only 0.9675 ozt of gold in them.

Modern American Gold Eagles are also 22 karat but they contain one full troy ounce of gold in them. The obverses are the same but the reverses are different. They're worth looking at if you like August St. Gauden's work.

Best results I have had are to make sure the pan is perfectly clean, then put a thin coating of flaxseed oil over the whole pan (as thin as you can, like wipe with a paper towel until you can't wipe any more off) then bake in the oven at 400F until the oil has completely baked away, then repeat that process as many times as you have patience for. The way the Federal Reserve creates money will never result in a true cash shortage as for every dollar of money the Federal Reserve creates, there is a corresponding dollar of debt. What your friend says is partially correct.

There is a tremendous dearth of cash among the bottom 90% or so of the population as what these people have is essentially debt. They need, desperately for some, money to service that debt. Unfortunately for them, they're not in the Fed's VIP club and thus do not get any of the money created through all the rounds of quantitative easing.

Meanwhile, in the top 5% of wealth holders, there is a surfeit of cash and they don't really don't know what to do with it. Holding it is a guaranteed loser in the long run because it's clear that what is needed is a way for the debtors to lessen their debt which will only occur via debt cancellation or dollar depreciation. Obviously, the same 5% who own most of the wealth also are the biggest creditors so it'll be a cold day in hell before they agree to debt cancellation.

Thus, the top 5% and the next 5% after them after piling into anything and everything that might protect the purchasing power of the money they have: stocks, real estate, artwork and other collectibles, and even bonds (trading for capital gains).

The point being, there will be no deflation. Period. There may be a very brief period of disinflation/deflation where asset prices fall for a month or two but the central banks of the world will release another cycle of large scale asset purchases to goose prices higher again. This will eventually fail but it will fail in a very high inflation environment, not a deflationary environment.

The Fed, the most important central bank, is guided by the memory of the Great Depression and the effects of a deflationary spiral and enacts policies based on that institutional memory. They have no experience with or fear of hyperinflation.

I'm practically 100% certain that I've forgotten more economics than your friend knows. Just ask yourself one simple question: Since the Fed and the other major central banks of the developed world started QE in Q4 2008, after twelve years, has a basket of things tied to inflation fallen in price?

Car prices? Up.

Much will depend on how much a buyer wants and is willing to pay; and also how long Marz wants to keep doing this. He is a very shrewd operator and will likely give any potential buyer the "shaft." Be cool. The problem with talking about mining stocks is that there is a risk of a pump and dump. However, mining stocks are related to this thread and, for those who buy the right mining stocks, are where the massive profits will be made.

the real danger with mining stocks it that they don't actually make their money from people investing in PM's. They mostly sell metal to industry and government. So when recession hits, metals may go up in value while mines actually shut down for lack of demand. It's not a straight equality where metal goes up and mine stock goes up. Even when they do move together, there's usually about a 2 year lag between prices rising and miners growing. It takes time to capitalize a rise in value and then go into production. So any rise that lifts miners has to be sustained. We're in a recession. Right now metals prices will likely continue to rise while mines continue to shut down.

However, the past decade has shown that they will stop at nothing to avoid that outcome. iirc it was illegal to mine gold in the US during WWI so prices were flat. Gold ore was worthless in the US. We saw huge booms when that law was repealed, but it was reinstated for WWII.

the timing of US gold miners' rise coincided with the depression but had nothing to do with it. Also we didn't have private investors in gold at the time because it was illegal or being pulled off the market. The price of gold was fixed by the US government.

the situation is entirely unlike modern recessions just because of the legal environment surrounding gold ownership and mining in the US.

Uncertainty was another problem, they can't tool up for a tiny spike in prices

Pan American and Equinox are both Ross Beaty's companies. Your money is safe in his companies, but they're already big and your returns won't be as supercharged. Safe and solid companies, but not cheap.

Metalla is a great royalty company, very safe, momentum going up for this stock price as well. No jurisdictional risk as opposed to something like FN or SAND. Chart has been very interesting too, am personally looking to add to position.

Goldmining is being slept on, I've been pushing this stock for a while, and should be valued at at LEAST $3 minimum in 2020. That was it's price at the beginning of the current gold bull market, and since then it's 14 projects are continuing to be developed, Gold's price itself has shot up, and as well recently it has created a subsidiary Gold Royalty Corp to get royalties on it's 14 diversified assets, which would retain shareholder value as GoldMining finds JV partners to develop it's projects, or sells it's projects.

Don't sell this stock until the last innings of this bull market years down the line. Backed by Doug Casey, Marin Katusa, Rick Rule, and Ross Beaty's given his best praise for CEO Adnani, who's been called the next Beaty. Analyst price target for 12 months is $6. Chart looks like it's flagging too.

First Majestic has fantastic leverage to silver, is very well managed, and has Neuymeyer at the helm, who seems like a the best captain to a very strong ship. Only problem is Mexican gov't is shaking them down for tax money. We'll have to see how it plays out. Silver is making huge moves recently.
