That’s not the point. Your house appreciates in value and often times is less than a rental payment. The average American grossly over spends, and likes to live above his/her (especially her) means. Most of the people in those 1500 to 2200+ apartments technically can afford it according to the 30-40% rule of rental to salary, but that’s a retarded idea. I know a town 2 hours away from me that is dirt cheap and a college town. Would it be a good idea to buy a house there and rent out every room? I dont know how difficult maintenance requests are and stuff like that, or the process to get it going. Ive been saving half of my pay to do this.

Some investors there buy houses, remodel the insides and then rent/sell. I want to do something like that.
