Alright so I'm selling a vehicle, posted an ad on facebook marketplace.
Two gentlemen travel 16 hours by bus to purchase my vehicle.
Price we agreed upon is $4500.
After spending several hours showing them the vehicle, taking it on test drives, etc... The main guy tells me he can do $1500 through cashapp and $3000 cash because of withdraw limits whatever.
Seemed sketchy, but I have a cashapp and it got to me instantly, deposited in my bank instantly, no problem.
When it comes time to pay the cash his card gets fraud locked and he can't withdraw anything.
He says he can pay the rest Monday so I write him a receipt for his $1500 deposit and drop them off at their hotel. They wanted to hold onto the title to feel safe, which I agreed to because it's not signed over and I can get a replacement since it is registered to me.
Now he's messaging me saying he can only pay $2100. No no no.

Am I obligated to return their $1500 deposit if they can't pay the agreed upon remainder of the full price?

I live in Florida.

I'll give you 2500 for it

Don't be a nigger. If they don't get the car, you have to give back the $1,500. Also, while hindsight is always 20/20, why didn't you get the cash first then do the cashapp?

Keep their $1500 if they try and pussy out of paying the agreed upon price.

But it was a deposit and they agreed on $4500 and now they are asking me to take $3500. I wasted half a day and a bunch of gas for these guys.

You certainly aren't obligated to accept less than what was offered, but there was no agreement to compensate you for your time. I would take it as a lesson learned. Next time, just tell them to come back when they have the cash.

After trying at least 3 times to lowball me with excuses he agreed to the full price tomorrow morning.
Thought he was a shrewd negotiator.
