Hi /wage/. I am male 24 years old, studied computer science. It has been 1 year since I graduated. Never had a full-time job, but now realized that I need to find one. I am very good at web development, love mathematics and physics, but bad with people.

Before I graduated, I did work as an intern at a program management company. They are transitioning to be a tech-service company. When they hired me, they ask me to learn to program some embedded systems for some factory shops to do some basic counting. From this experience, I have learned that I dislike working with hardware or embedded system and I just want to stick with software and web. Plus I have history breaking some company's item because of my lack of engineering knowledge.

I am only an intern for 4 months then I quit. Tried searching for full-time jobs but to no avail. Then corona happens. 1 year after I quit the intern job, I got an interview from western digital. I went to the job interview this week. They told me about my future position (if I were to be accepted) will be programming the robotic arm, conveyor belt, factory shops, etc. I just nod or be a yesman until it finishes, now I regretted it because I might get tasked to do something I cannot do.

This week too, I participated in an exam to enter the public-sector as an IT officer. Thankfully the exam was easy. The problem now becomes I might get the western digital job and the public sector usually took a very long time to announce the result since there are so much people applying, plus that is only an exam, not to call for an interview yet. I really want to public job because I heard it was comfy. What should be my next move now?

>tldr; I just want a stress-free job so I can work on my sideprojects during work. Which of these can deliver me what I wanted? Government/public-sector jobs? Working at Private companies?

Will you be bind by contract for specific time if you get the job at western? If not just be there until you can get something better, I noticed that when you don't have a job and looking for one you will get 0 replies and you aren't needed but once you get any job, offers just pour, i noticed same pattern with girls

>you quit your embedded job to do more embedded stuff + to work with that cancer factory automation sw like simatic?
I quit my intern job because I cannot do my job well and it is taxing my health and money. The office is 30KM apart from the client's factory. So each time I need to test/debug my controllino (arduino for industrial use), I have to travel with my own car (a shitbox), fill my own tank and pay the tolls using my own money.

Plus, my company or the client's factory do not provide good test environment so I have to standup all day, one hand holding the laptop, and one hand to program. Thankfully I use a Thinkpad, they provide USB jacks from all directions and the trackpoint was really helpful. Still, standing while programming in a non-airconditioned room next to the factory machine that produce loud "bang" noise for hours is not good for anybody's health.

Also, I did not know WD was offering a factory automation position because the job ad says C++ programmer and I just applied for it. Thought I will get interviewed about programming for some backup software.

Sounds very comfy fren, but I dont have the people skill so I will never get this kind of job.

Thank you for the heads up. Yeah, kinda realizing that after so much anons been talking about this.

>throw my paycheck at crypto
Off-topic, but since you came from a technical background, may I know your strategy on investing? Do you have some specifics projects that you hold? Or you buy monthly/weekly crypto that died and sell when they pump? Or do you trade momentum? Or do you scalp?

It is permanent position. Yeah I think I will just work here, see how it goes, but if I do get the offer from the public sector, I will resign from WD.

The reason I want to go into public sector is because of no stress (still contains some age-politics), and dont have to worry about layoffs (like corona for example). Just want to make money, and put it all into crypto before crypto becomes regulated.

im working at amazon right now. its literally the most dehumanizing job ive ever had and i hate it so much but there's hardly anything else available. im putting any spare money i can into LINK/AAVE (and XSN for a quick pump), selling artwork (painting peoples pets always guarantees some extra money), and i just threw together a boomer tier POD shop, so hopefully that will bring in at least a little bit if i can get some good FB ads going.

Industry research in an unbelievably based career, but you're gonna have to work hard to prove you're not a brainlet. I was able to make a switch with just a research masters, but you may need to do a PhD. You should be paid to do a comp sci PhD though and it's relatively low stress so it's not that bad.

Once you're in prepare for big money with nobody hovering over you. As long as you actually know what you're doing all you have to do is hit some basic research project deadlines. Kinda fun as you get to pick for yourself what solution might work for the task at hand. I work about 2 hours a day usually. I'm "working" right now lmao. Career advancement is great too as I've had several published and cited papers, book publications and patents filed which are public and make other companies desperate to hire you. Get your foot in the door and some work out and the world is your oyster. Amazon offered me €105k base with a €25k signing/moving bonus plus a 4 year vesting plan worth €200k (basically they give me €200k stock if I stay for 4 years).

I'm 27.
