Yes. It is outdated boomer investing. Way back before the Fed considered printing its only option, average dividend yields were ~5%. And it was an average so you could find 10-15% yield companies. And capital appreciation was slow so long hold dividend stocks could actually provide you with a stable backend income that didn't require you ALREADY made it.
Money printing starting with Greenspan and accelerating to MAXIMUM PRINTER WORKS today caused stock value inflation but not appreciation. The average yield now is ~1.5% and it might be lower as even blue chips and oil suspend theirs. So you need more than 10-15x the capital investment to get the same kind of backend.
Dividend investing is absolute trash because the Fed made it so well before JPOW.

Theta. Though apparently options on TSLA lately have been doing quite well, its just that unless you get lucky enough to have several up days, you might get fucked by theta. Not to mention with stocks, you can buy and hold, even if you fuck up and buy at a local top you can wait for it to come back up to break even or make a profit. With options, if your expiration date is a bit close, then you start to eat theta decay.
Its not that options can't be insanely profitable, its just that they can also be very dangerous with massive losses.

This is something I think some people don't understand. Sure you can make ass loads of money on stocks. But once you make that money that's it. You spend it and over time it shrinks. So each year your money pile goes down. Not so with Divvy stocks. That money you get from them is a constant stream year after year once you turn off that drip switch. So you start investing in a divvy stock. 30 years later it's grown to a nice wad. Year 31 you turn off that drip option. From that point till your dead your getting that wad of money dumped into your account no mater what. Kinda like a paycheck that never runs out.
