I’ve heard stories of coworkers finding crazy stuff but I’ve only been doing it two years. One time when crushing up an old dresser I found a bank envelope with 100 crisp 100 dollar bills. They were from the late 90s/early 00s and all still stuck together, never been used. Last week I found a box with about 2000 magic the gathering cards but I gave them to my friend. A lot of my coworkers know how to fix small engines and will regularly pick up lawnmowers and weed whackers that only have a small issue like a carburetor and fix them and sell them. Another guy found a PS4 last week.

pnd are much faster and nowhere near as steep. This is clearly a bubble pattern, not a pnd pattern, which is very different. In a bubble, the bubble can keep going on nearly forever, whereas for a pnd, the correction is brutal and immediate. Bubbles respond to events and typically don't correct anywhere near as much as pnds. Pnds don't respond to events, they respond to price targets for take profit.

I think mainly the majority of the world just hasn't realized how long this is with us. Even if we don't have much of a second wave, the recovery from this could be up to a decade. People are gonna be unlikely to want to gather in large crowds, And when they do gather it's going to be very expensive to put all the safety precautions in place. And since we are talking United States markets, our country is handled it some of the worst ways. I think that stimulus will help, but at a certain point we're going to hit a wall.

Most of the money is earmarked to be used to buy american military gear. It also gives US special powers over israel, such as when they forced israel to give back the territory they won following the surprise attack they suffered during their holiday.

Israel aid is still way too much, but so is any aid to the middle east anyway.

Mutual funds pool investor money into a common account. A manager(s) actively manages that fund to make returns for the pooled investors. The "shares" in that mutual fund appreciate (or depreciate) as they value of the assets of the pool increases (or decreases). Active management means that there is human input involved in deciding what to buy and sell, as well as when. Mutual fund managers charge fees, typically 1-2% annually to all accounts. Instead of picking stocks, it comes down to choosing a mutual fund manager. Most MFs have a 5 letter ticker. Most MFs have been losing ground or lost since the 2000s to Index funds. Rebalancing happens after market based on the net flow of money in or out and the various positions taken by the manager.
Index funds are basically MFs with a "passive" management style. What happens there is the manager just has a robot buy whole bunches of stocks across many different sectors that "average" the big losers with the big winners to give overall average of the market or particular market sector based on predetermined selection rules. They have been kicking active management's ass for years (including a lot of hedge funds). For example, there are many index funds that all track the same SP500 index that are maintained by different companies. Because its mostly computers and robots, the fees are substantially less (<0.1% annual).
ETFs are modeled after index funds as baskets of stocks, bonds, whatever that track a particular security. And those securities just need to be "cash equivalent" so they can be proxied with "shares" onto the exchange. These can be bought or sold through the day like a stock. SPY is the most heavily traded ETF in the world that tracks the SPX (index fund of the SP500). But these can be niche and contain more advanced securities (the main ones being shorts and futures). Sometimes the ETF's target asset and strategy is so complicated to undertake that the fees can approach regular mutual funds.

>Thanks. what I really like about mutual funds is that I can just throw money at them every month more easily than ETFs
/smg/ is trader focused, not investor focused. There are a lot of good and bad reasons as to why.
That said, mutual funds are kind of slowly going on the way out because of how much they consistently lose to index funds. There are a few superstars every once in a while but its increasingly becoming more about luck than talent. And those fees add up over time. It is counterintuitive to most people that for most people the dumbest and best return is a passive index fund. There is a pernicious and persistent belief that you need to spend more to make more (perpetuated by MFs themselves). So whatever MFs you are looking at, compare how they perform against the SP500 or SPY.
The last MF I ever held was BFOCX. If you need a MF for a 401k matching scheme, try looking into that for a start.I am not sure if its still performing as well as I remember.

It's due to the conditions of the run up. There are reasons for price action other than line, and newbies need to learn that "japanifcation" isn't some strawman nor a BS argument. The economic conditions following 90s Japan are the ones that we may be entering. Based on how indexes work, index funds may return something like 4% over the next 10 years. No one can tell the future, but the things often mirror the past. America isn't Japan, but the conditions we're entering are likely stagflation or japanifcation.

I’ve been trying to look up company-related news, and if it’s good/bad I invest accordingly- since I assume that’s how most of the market functions.

Does it work? Does that make me a sheep? How do pros gather news for their investments?

There's nothing really set in stone, no systems or rules really. 99% of people trying to sell you some sort of system or method are just con artists (the people actually doing it are out there doing it, not selling courses). Everyone at the end of the day is just kind of winging it. I think combining TA with what you're doing is generally pretty well rounded. There's a lot a chart can tell you, but there's also a lot that CEO interviews, press releases and general news can tell you as well.

I dont think you'll see insane gains, but that seems like a pretty responsible investment strategy to use while you get your feet wet. But most publicly traded companies dont 10x in a year, so I wouldn't get delusions of grandeur or anything, just look at it as a way to maintain your money while (hopefully) outperforming inflation and the market in general.

"pros" for the most part don't actually play the stock market. They get insider knowledge or literally hack into various places to get an edge like that institution did a few weeks ago, or they have such large starting capital they just outright buy the company on their own or contact other shareholders and together pressure the company using their sharepower, like buffett did (he ganged together with other major shareholders and forced a company to sell all its assets and give the proceeds to the shareholders, knowing that the assets were worth more than the market cap of the company).
Otherwise, what >>20109545 says is correct. TA works fairly well to find an entry point but it's everything else (news, sentiment, story, products, management, and such) that decide how well a company will do. How to get ahold of that information or how to analyze it is something every investor or trader keeps secret.
Just don't fall for the value investing meme or other boomer shit, it's as dumb as trying to invest the same way today as if it was the start of the greatest bullrun ever we've seen end in february. Market conditions change all the time and whatever you do must be adapted to the current market.

My method for playing these is to sell exactly
floor(maxrisk / ((strike - premium - floortarget) * 100)) puts, selecting the maximum available total premium (as the above value * premium * 100) as the favored one, and nothing with less than 1:2 RR. If I can't sell outright, I set a limit sell at that target if it's within the bid-ask range, and give up (or keep watch) otherwise. If that value is <= 0, it means the put you're looking at should not be touched.
maxrisk = max amount of money you want to risk in this trade. I usually set that between 2-5% of my entire portfolio. floortarget = minimum value you believe the stock will ever reach. For example, I believe this is 0.3 for nxtd, 10 for wkhs, and 1.5 for gnus. You might notice my estimates are very conservative.
For example, I sold 50 puts on nxtd with premium 1.9 each and a strike of 2.5. My maxrisk was $1500, my targetfloor was 0.3. floor(1500 / ((2.5 - 1.9 - 0.3) * 100)) = 50.
The current price of nxtd is now 0.5775. If I get exercised, I will lose $112.5 at present assuming I sell as soon as I receive the stock. In practice, this is somewhat unlikely to happen due to the slim margin for the high cost the buyer paid.
Similarly, I sold 17.5 puts on wkhs when it was worth ~$12, which are currently worth upward of $6000 should I close the position now.
Win some, lose some, but as long as your winrate and risk management checks out, it's a great strat.

Buying options is like getting leveraged stocks that react also to time expiry, volatility, and other factors. If you can't make use of these factors, or if you can't mitigate these factors while retaining the leverage, the option is bad and the stock would be better. If the stock is very volatile but you have no information about it, except you hope in an uncertain future it will go up, getting options is usually not a good idea because it's easy to get an option that expires a month before the stock moons. However if you have extra information and you're fairly certain of when the stock will moon, options reduce risk and increase upside through the leverage.
Another set of strategies involve reducing your cost basis for a stock you want to own, such as with the Wheel strategy.
People who say options are good for building small portfolio basically say you should gamble. Don't listen to them for the most part. You have won this time, and with $5k you should have about enough to start building an actual trading or investment position instead of gambling.
The strategy described in >>20109886 is very safe and I don't like it, but if you really really like a specific stock, it's a good way to go. For example, I think you'd leave a lot on the table, but it's a fairly sane play to get 100 NET and sell covered calls from there.

The stock market isn’t about good or bad it’s about supply and demand and expectations of the future. It’s expectations of expectations. Keynes likened the stock market to a beauty pageant where each judge was trying to pick the woman who the OTHER judges would pick to win. It’s like a utility, so it’s got that desirable quality of consistency and that it will likely never go to zero, and it’s got cyclical exposure so it improves when there’s more construction activity.

>common genetic code

98% of our genome correlates to fucking rice plants or some shit, if you are conflating fact with theory

I understand the complexities of genetic code and expression well enough and it means nothing to me when it comes to evolution. God made us so we hardly have the intellect to understand prime numbers let alone the dance of complex biological molecules.
