Personally I don't think majors are overbought at all because the ETF prices aren't even close to their highs when gold was at this price before. maybe they're too hot relative to juniors, but i think that's because juniors are yet to really take off.
Silver is where I'm throwing more money, but I already have a decent exposure to silver via magpie-tism and some tinfoil. I'm even starting to bail on some crypto to pick up more silver. I've got some pockets of old mining shit that I'm finding and converting to silver. Personally, i think that silver miners and juniors are far more speculative in nature and am looking to sticking to about
>45 gold miners
>30 silver miners (SILJ is most of this portion)
>10 commodities & diversified metals
>above to peel into and grow when taking PM miner profits or if PM miners are too expensive when i do my buy ins.
>15 cash & deflationary hedges
I'm new to metals and commodities but I have some experience with macro and micro. Right now I'm 100% onboard with miners being in the top 5 bets in this market. The reason that I'm mentioning diversified miners is that it's a bit more of a conventional play, and one of the bigger sources of silver is other mining including zinc, lead, and copper. I'm imagining that those guys might dip hard, but if silver really really goes ballistic, they might get a bump but only after they've eaten shit for a while due to broader market swings.

Unironically index funds. Something that tracks a large swath of the market with low expense ratio so it requires minimum micromanaging. VTSAX and VBTLX 90/10 spread for example. They have minimum account requirements of ~3k which you might be able to meet with the aforementioned recovery of principal from WKHS.
Talk with a tax professional about if it would make sense to just have that run in a brokerage account or put it in a roth or traditional IRA.

seriously though, this is top tier advice. don't fuck with other people's money. that whole post is good. The only thing is that we should be skeptical of the indexes and the bond market right now. The potential losses (like in april, but it's even worse now) far, far outweigh the potential gains. I would imagine you should stick to short term treasuries only if you want to invest a lot. having exposure to the S&P and Bond markets is great, but the risk right now is absurd. you're going to lose out on like 2%? 3% the potential downside over the year is something like 5-40% from here.

Fucking based, same here. I'm a $140k sftw engr, even when I was in the office I'd probably do like an hour's worth of work spread across the day and rest of the time reading manga or shitposting on 4channel.org.

But now that everybody's WFH I do even less because nobody is coming to my desk randomly to ask questions. My daily standups are at around 10 AM so I just sleep in every day, and I usually don't have meetings after 2 PM. Sitting here watching anime or playing vidya on the company dime feels fucking great.

I just have the company Slack open on the side and once in a while I get a ping. That's basically the bulk of my work now lol

Hello,

Should I execute my 180 msft call on December 18?

18,000 + 1,800 = 19,800 as my total cost

I feel like msft could reach 220 by december so it will be a great deal anywhere north of 200.

What does biz think?

The volatility right now is absolutely shit for long term investing, especially for how most people tend to treat their retirement accounts as a "set it and forget it" kind of operation. You'll want to recover principal from WKHS now and let it run if you want until USPS contract. Then you'll actually have to be patient before putting it into a stock/bond index portfolio. Depending on time scale, even dips have rarely mattered historically if you are looking across decades but better to make sure your entry point isn't like Japan in the 90s first.
It is RARELY brought up in /smg/ anymore but you can play the money markets (short term bonds or treasuries) with that cash in the meantime. The returns are meh but you cannot wind up with less than you started with.

I'll also say that the timing right now really isn't so bad for a small, small entry into the S&P - just very high risk. We happen to be near what appears to be the bottom of a multiyear channel, roughly the length of this whole cycle. (we broke into it a week or three ago). This spot is closely related to that 200 daily moving average that people are talking about... key resistance being something like S&P@3100. so if you were investing as a younger person, throwing a tiny speck more at equities than you were a month ago might not be as stupid as it sounds with that -40%/+3% risk reward. If you're older it's just ludacris, because as the other anon says, you could be throwing the money in like it's 90s Nikkei
>hurrr we're america, it's different
it is and it isn't. but if you're over 40 and there's a... let's say 5% chance that you'll never ever see equities broadly at this level for 20 years... would you want to risk a lot of that money right now?

Then you can still withdraw the principal $6000 contributed after 5 years. So if you're 20, and you want to retire at 50, that's 25 years of contributions, or $150k, plus another 6k every year. If you REALLY need to take out your gains before 65, then you'll have to take the hit on taxes and fees.

Really though, If you want to retire early, then you'll be tucking away more than 6k per year. That's just the maximum you can tuck away and get tax free gains on.

however since the economy has been extremely volatile and bearish as all hell it probably isn't worth attempting anymore unless you have full confidence the fed will do everything they can to prop up the stock market and succeed doing so for several years

Deaths are, after dealing with the virus, a smaller issue unless they get out of hand which is when people just start refusing to do anything which is chaos and unacceptable. It's like if the bond market takes a shit; it's fine as long as credit is flowing and we can keep issuing new debt. We have a few elements that should be appreciated here, especially when it comes to surge capacity, this includes and is not limited to:
>having the actual physical beds
>separate wards or areas dedicated to managing the virus
>containing the virus within areas to make sure it doesn't spread to other ICA admissions
>understanding the treatments available and what constraints exist when patient has other issues
>having a sufficient(ly liquid) supply of essential equipment
>having sufficiently skilled labor force that can manage handling new protocols
>having a sufficiently educated populace (in this beginning phase) so they decrease rates of infection
>getting the legal/insurance pieces together
So to support the system, because an overzealous opening would fuck up all of the above because this is what happened in Italy and the UK, there must be production cuts to prevent spread. We'll also see demand slowdown as well, and this becomes a real problem for budgets, which need to be balanced. So the states have the gun in their face and need to reopen faster than they're able to due to budgets which will create an outbreak. That the infections are generally young is somewhat concerning because they are likely to infect their parents or the elderly. the thing we should be hoping for is that this iteration of corona is less lethal. But it doesn't justify reopening too quickly because we need to make sure it's now just the cold lest we become Italy, which could potentially happen and then fuck the budgets harder. covid will ultimately, short of being a catastrophe (which is seems to not be), just be revenue headwinds in an environment where revenues are needed most.

We're not going to see another crash again until flu season. Covid by itself isn't really that deadly, it has a 99.5+% survival rate. People know this and while most are somewhat adhering to guidelines such as social distancing, masks, etc. most people know that it's not because of the risk to them, it's the risk of spreading it to others who might be at risk. That being said, once flu season hits, and COVID is still around, you're going to get people who have both, and that is going to be a bad thing. Most people will still survive, but more than likely it will progress into pneumonia. Even if you survive pneumonia it will fuck up your lungs and put you at increased risk for pneumonia again every single year after. We won't really see these effects for another 20-30, but there is going to be entire generations that will have chronic lung issues due to this outbreak. The zoom zoom generation is probably fine, most of them are young enough to make a full recovery, but if you're 25+ even if COVID isn't dangerous to you now, you should still be careful, as it could have long lasting affects on your health. This is especially exasperated because a large percentage of millenials vape, which already makes their lungs overly vulnerable and a much more humid environment.

The way I see it, the crash happened in March, which was around the time Italy and Iran were being decimated. People arent stupid, and for the most part people know COVID is that dangerous. When people start dying, that's when it's going to become dangerous again. For the most part people are wearing masks, and social distancing, but they arent quarantining any more. If this starts killing people, they're going to quarantine again, especially because it will be swinging into winter anyway. That's where my guess about the crash comes from.

This. I also just noticed it.

Robinhood has what they dont consider a bug. If you have enough cash in your account you can sell calls on stocks you dont have stocks in....even though they generally block it via "infinite risk" pop up. Their rep claimed it's legit even though it was likely their buggy app that changed it from a buy call to a sell call....probably as I've had it let me offer shares on the options screen rather than contracts lmao. Wonder how long before someone abuses it cause at this point they pissed me off with that excuse. Now I gotta be extra careful a sell call doesnt become a buy call especially since I was closing out calls and mid way through it went from selling them to buying them back...

Yeah no surprise there. Although in my story i likely canceled the 1.40 put in 1.41 and it'd happen albeit those were aebritary numbers to get the point across. Reminds me of the time were I had a limit buy at like 10.20 for a half hour. Go in there, probably cancel it, raise it 1 penny, and immediately it goes through for 10.20.

Pisses me off especially with options where if I try to buy or sell contracts in batches larger than 1 it will not go through. But if i buy/sell 1 at a time I can buy/get rid of them quicker in a minute than literally putting 10 of them up at the midpoint price. Mainly applies to lower volume options.

Hope so. I dont even get unemployment and cant get a non crummy job. Recruiter roastie wastes my time. Then has the audacity to come begging for me to go back and interview with her (she didnt attend the first phone interview for nearly an hour, I bounced after 10 minutes waiting cause of past experience). Begs for an interview and then randomly iust sends me a list of jobs as if though the interview would be pointless. The jobs were garbage tier and not full time iirc and likely would end no matter what in sub 3 months. All while paying near minimum wage. Glad i ignored her but man I really hate dealing with hr and recruiters, they get paid that much and are usually incompetent YET SOMEHOW IM UNQUALIFIED FOR IT EVEN THOUGH ID CLEARLY BE BETTER AT IT!?

Why, because of the new price target? SPCE has been fairly weak lately and it remains the NKLA of space tourism.

I still don't understand why leveraged ETF are bad.

But I guess I'll get RTX, MRK, and...

I want to put 80% of my money into some strong set-and-forget stocks for the next 30 months.
The ETF all look like they'd cycle back up a lot in that time, but no?

I've got Microsoft, Nvidia, Taiwan semiconductor, coke, PayPal.

Heavy in tech already so I wanted other sectors..

dunno how old the photo is but these girls were older than i thought

29 or 30+ yo girls are in the no-go zone since if you want to have 2 kids you need to start when she's 30 to be on the safe side, that means the girl must be at most 25 years old if you want to have 5 years to get to know her and travel around before you have children.
