My main concern is why the fuck would tech companies pay to use computational power instead of just building their own infrastructure. Seems like that'd cut into their profits pretty hard especially considering you literally have to pay a higher stake just to insure more accurate data.

What you don't understand is RLC token's value is primarily just a unit of measurement for global processing power worldwide. There is no reason large forms could not migrate to the cloud and frankly, game theory shows the obvious conclusion of this system's very existence will be lower overhead for any cloud provider who diverts their processing power onto the iExec network (and furthermore, they wouldn't even have to stop providing their centralized options for any firm that likes to pay more for less secure, less efficient service that is more prone to outages and other technical difficulties).
