I never understood holding on to 6 months salary. Just make sensible investments and if any pops up then sell gains. Not having half a years worth of money not working for you sounds crazy to me. I pad myself for a month, course I have a debt to income ratio of around 10-15% and that seems less them most of my peers so maybe that has something to do with it.
