I’ve spent 5k in PM’s in the last 6 months. I am also a poorfag. But again like you said it doesn’t feel like I am spending money on the contrary I am just putting my money in my own personal safe that will never lose value and can be exchanged in any country or point in history. I guess that’s what real money is VS currency.

SKREF - can't really tell, but I wouldn't be buying in now though.

LRTNF - would be interesting around 75-85 cents

PVG - probably best looking of the bunch, i'd like it around $7

SEA.TO - can't find the ticker on tradingview
XXMMF - garbage volume
NEM - rough chart buy around $45
ALO - either about to go bankrupt or 20x your money, more likely bankrupt
HL - doesn't look healthy either, but is at a good price IF you are going to buy it.
AG - their chart looks basically like the silver chart... so just stack more physical.

Brorinos, I have a couple of questionerinos that I'd like you to answerino if you don't minderino.

Why do you buy gold?
Because you think it’s undervalued and it will boom? To preserve wealth since the fed’s monetary policy is destroying the value of the dollar but you don’t really care about the price booming? Because you think the monetary system will eventually change in our lifetimes and when that happens some sort of pm-backed currency will be adopted and, consequently, pms’ prices will explode? Because you think all other assets are overvalued and you don’t know where to put your money? Because you don’t trust banks and want to hold part of your wealth in real assets? Because of an hypothetical apocalyptical scenario where you expect to have to trade your pms for food?

Why do you buy silver? To trade it for gold when/if the gold:silver ratio shortens?

Do you keep track of the gold:silver ratio when you buy gold and/or silver? And do you follow any other ratio related with pms (dow:gold ratio, for example)?

Do you have any gold:silver allocation ratio?

Do you have one of those metal verifier machines to check if the coins/bars you’re buying are the real thing? If yes, which one do you have? Or what tests do you do to check if your pms aren’t fakes?

As an European investor, does it make any difference buying american eagle coins, britannias or philarmonicas? I’m asking this because of the capital gains tax. I know that, for example, britannias are exempt of capital gains tax. Bu that only applies to UK based investors, right?

Do you have any favorite coins/bars? I mean, do you try to have an homogeneous pm portfolio (always the same type of bar, always the same size, etc) or do you try to diversify across bars/coins, small sizes/medium sizes, american/british/european/australian/canadian coins, etc?

I literally have €15K to dump on precious metals right fucking now. What gold:silver allocation would you recommend me?

GOLD IS GOLD, buy what you can get for the lowest premium, the day you sell it to a dealer (or even a private sale) no one will give you anything else than current spot price.
Laws and taxes may change in the future and I dont know about UK laws.
When the price per gramm is the same I personally try to get the smallest coin or bar possible, it gives you more options. 5,81g fine gold LMU coins are cheap, Sovereigns/2 Rand, 20g gold bars, 1oz bullion coins and 1oz gold bars are very common.
Dont be the sucker that pays a high premium for 1/4 oz American Eagle/Kruger/Philharmoniker etc.

Currently silver seems to be undervalued, but for starting out I would focus on gold, for 15.000€ I would buy 10.000€ gold (210g) and 5000€ (8,3kg) silver.

so anon i'm un sure how much you already know so i'll try to briefly cover some basics.
gold is horded by banks and rich/wealthy people, in that regard things like 100oz bars will always have demand.
for silver its very different world. you're average investor isn't a bank or some wealthy guy. its the middle class and industry eats about 60% of the silver mined every year. so buying high demand coins is way more important because when silver hits $60oz a lot of people will be unloading silver. but things like a ASE, will still be in demand, while a lot of other small coins/bars won't even find buyers at spot minus a dollar or 2....

but back to investing, silver usually moons higher then gold, in past recessions and depressions silver can triple and gold can double

I know that gold and silver are both undervalued, silver more, and at some point in time this manipulation will end. I'm not exactly looking to trade, since I'd expect the manipulation to stop once it blows out, so I'd suppose that the price of gold and silver would stay high/higher.

Claim owners died last fall and its in legal hell so i went and had a look, there is all sorts of mineralized rock laying around that carries free gold. The placer miners probably had no idea either.

This is my other fear that keeps me up at night with my hard rock lease, I think it's the same over in your country but with the myriad of enviromental regulations if you don't meet certain mining regulations and commitments, people can apply to "sue" you for the right to take over the lease in a special mining court. I bought my lease off a company and this guy who was friends with the old historic owner who lost it in the early 2000s somehow got my number and contacted me, he wanted to buy it off me and when I asked how come he never bought it in the first place he said he didn't even know it was for sale, so I think he's watching me carefully waiting to strike if i fuck up

Than anyone can snap it up at 12 midnight the day it forfeits. Another issue that can happen is the claim owner dies, and the next of kin don't get on transferring the claim in time, the claim goes into a limbo state that requires a law suit and argument for the claim to go to next of kin. Thats what happened at the place above.

>Is this a bad indicator about the future performance of silver
yeah, almost the entire value of silver and gold comes from public perceptions rather than industrial factors of supply and demand.

so if the public sees it as almost worthless then it will stay that way. The psychology plays a definite part in the pricing. /pmg/ tries to change that psychology with raw data, but we have an audience so small here it won't make any difference.

In reality supply and demand have very little effect on pm's in industry because they don't cost much more than copper or lead to mine, and if a company spends more to mine gold it's only because they can sell it for more as a result of investor psychology. It will take a huge shift in psychology to see silver even triple in price, let alone approach gold parity, despite both of them having about the same costs of production and use in industrial processes. We're probably more likely to see gold crash than silver boom.

most silver and gold production comes as byproduct of copper and other base metal production. So it costs nothing to produce from that standpoint. It's fucking free. Bonus metal from processes we need to do anyways.

there is a huge sector of mines that go after silver or gold as their primary product, but that's not because of industrial supply or demand. It's because speculators and investors hold the prices high enough that small, expensive operations like PanMan's or the jungle gold miners all over the world find it worthwhile to hunt the stuff even at much higher than industrial production prices. Small time mines are caused by the price of metals being so high, they're not raising prices or indicating what it actually costs to produce metals on an industrial scale.

sure, these threads are ample evidence of that.

and they're not necessarily wrong, since nations, banks, and corporations all hoard PM's to store value outside of fiat and markets. As do most wise investors.

but to raise the value of silver against gold would require apocalyptic collapse of trade, along with some magical devaluing of gold as a medium of exchange. Also the collapse of bartering in real goods and services for some reason. Or of course a massive propaganda campaign, but frankly the average person isn't that concerned with the scarcity or value of silver. demand is also set by price.

take silver solder as an example. If silver suddenly moons to the price of gold you're going to see people taking their plumbing apart and selling the solder. It's only used because it is so cheap. The low price stimulates industrial demand in cases where other metals could be used instead.

In my experience the only people that benefit from price spikes and drops in silver are the ones trading paper. If you try to buy physical metal at some extreme low or sell at some short peak nobody is likely to do the deal. Because they'll make money by waiting for the market to even out. This has the effect of homogenizing prices, even if they're at higher levels.

then there's the fact that industry operates entirely on future contracts, just like most commodities. Which tends to flatten the markets even more.

I think numismatic collecting is largely a holdover from the 1990’s. Back when there were huge speculative markets on basically EVERYTHING; Coins, stamps, comics, beanie babies, toys, etc.

People dumped their life’s savings into these things thinking they’d appreciate in value, and they could sell them for a fortune in 30 years and retire.

Well, after the 90’s people had less money to spend on that excessive stuff and the markets shrank way down. Or in some cases, disappeared entirely.

Got a few of the old coins from the 1940s cheap on eBay. Just for fun, only the thruppences have any silver in them at all actually.

I think the internet is making a lot of stuff that used to be rarer easier to find.

Coins that are genuinely still rare attract a large premium. But that usually means coins from the 1700s and earlier, unless it’s in exceptionally good condition.

>>19609537
yeah, you're right. And ebay did more to kill off those markets than anything else. Used to be you'd have to travel the world searching antique shops and specialty stores to fill out a collection. Nobody had any idea how rare or common a lot of that stuff was. Now we can find pretty much anything online and we can track actual rarity and value based on sales from all over the world. Stamps in particular were hit hard. Ebay made most stamps completely worthless.

Coins may go out the same way. Hard to say how collecting will fare in the future. Collecting US coins is still extremely popular, but they're not rare. Not most of them. A rare US coin still has millions or even tens of millions of examples in private collections. So that market could collapse pretty easily.

Funny thing, Pokémon is still a pretty new thing. Even the people who grew up with it are still really only in their late 20’s early 30’s or younger.

Makes me wonder if the trend follows and all this Pokémon cards will still have any value in 30, 40, 50 years. My guess is probably not.

Where I live you get 10 cents for empty cans, 25 cents for empty plastic bottles. I've been collecting all the cans I see on my daily bike commute and turning them in, so far in a month I made 455 dollars this way. Gonna keep doing it until I can buy my first ounce. Then when I made it and am comfy I can tell all my grandkids that that's the first ounce that I transmuted into gold from literal trash.

Anons, I just got started with silver and I'm still learning everything. One thing I dont understand is the silver to gold ratio. If silver is cheaper, and I guess now it's at a pretty good low, then buy it. Once silver costs more than gold, sell it and buy gold? The ratio will eventually go back down and start again? So silver has more fluctuation in its price, while gold is much more stable from what I've put together. If I have enough money to buy gold, do I even bother with silver?
Pic is my first run of buying silver.
