Owning a home doesn’t mean you are in good financial shape. It means you have enough for a down payment and taxes. But if you buy a 500k home and owe 420k on it with job volatility, that’s far worse than someone renting who has 150k cash saved. I would say owning a home out right with multiple income streams is my definition of making it. Also being married doesn’t mean you’ve made it. Being married means you stand to get raped financially.
