I think i have been tricked into this already, I have switched jobs recently due to very poor pay and very poor work conditions. While I like the new company, the tasks are not as mathematically complex as they used to be, I am doing more planning/organization/reporting work and there is interns who do the mathematically complex parts. Granted, statistical analysis is in my soul and I will always find a way to put it in my work, guess I am enjoying my job way more than i should.

At the same time, other companies who advertised 'data' positions wanted full-stack webdevs who can also do data science and IT for free and paid peanuts on the dollar, while the real 'data' positions refused to look at anyone without a degree from MIT or stanford, many recruiters even asking that question explicitly. I think these aspects have calmed down a lot since then, but now they're looking at degrees and projects more than before, and won't accept proprietary shit you're not allowed to post source of.
