Chainlink is smart contract technology. It already works. Lots of people already use it. About half a billion in smart contract value is locked up in it already.

Chainlink is used for staking. The main risks to this are


1. People use chainlink without staking or

2. The devs allow people to stake with tokens other than Link


1. is easy enough to debunk. If you have not stake anything, you basically have nothing to lose from putting out bad data. You don't have skin in the game. You could be compromised if there were some very high value smart contracts out there.


2. is also easily debunked. To do this, we can consider the pros and cons of the chainlink team allowing people to stake other coins like Eth.

Cons:
-Chainlink network would be less secure. If people could stake with Eth or Bitcoin for example, it would be easier for people to acquire a majority of the Bitcoin/Eth that is staked in the chainlink network. Acquiring half of the chainlink tokens staked in the network would be extremely difficult, very costly due to impact, and if you did compromise the chainlink network the value of the tokens you had bought would crumble.

-The chainlink team's only source of funding is chainlink tokens. This will likely continue to be the case. Allowing eth to be used as collateral in chainlink oracles would be shooting themselves in the foot.

On the other hand, let's look at the pros of the chainlink team taking this step:
