that's why it's specifically referred to as the "novel coronavirus" and not just generally as a coronavirus--- it poses hitherto unseen danger within that category.

Also remember that the people begging for the economy to reopen are the ones who benefit from everyone else working and are probably not put at risk at all. They're also the ones who need everyone else to believe that this is just a common cold. Remember that if you're not one of the parasites doing no real work--- capitalists or landlords--- you're one of the people being exploited who actually stand the best chance of dying in all this. And if you're one of the parasites, then fuck you--- you'll hang soon.

also here is the thing. it's completely unnecesary to completely lock down the economy and daily life because of this virus. if we were better prepared for it (or something way worse) and didn't catch us with pants down simple precautions and available protective gear would have been enough to curb it and make it manageable. almost no country had enough masks and gloves and face shields and stuff for this crap. i have been using home sewn facemasks for weeks today was the first day i saw surgical masks in a shop (for exorbitant price).

so yeah could have been handled better if we as a civilization would have been better prepared with how out institutions designed including elderly homes prisons schools and hospitals and also workplaces. and if sufficient quantity of protective gear had been stockpiled both by the population and the states.

20% get sick enough to seek treatment about 40% of that require hospitalization and those put on a respirator like 17% almost surely die.

things will change significantly if either the antibodies or some better medicine will be available for giving a better fighting chance to sever cases and the most susceptible part of the population can be vaccinated.

I'm an icu nurse so I'm seeing this shit and treating. It's mostly ancient pieces of shit and morbidly obese niggers with all the comorbidities. For 99% of the population with any value as a human the risk is very near 0 from this thing. It is not worth shutting down the economy for people at the ends of their lives and welfare queens to fat to even reach their own ass if we just have to protect them me could set up dedicated detention facilities for the high risk groups and keep them under lockdown and it would still wind up being cheaper than a nationwide shutdown. Personally I think they should just self isolate if they are afraid of getting the just desserts. We have grocery delivery services, but as fat as they are they'd be fine just eating a multivitamin once a day with plenty of water with a little salt/potassium/magnesium added. Coronavirus doesn't kill, it's the sheer mass putting pressure on their lungs causing them to suffocate at the slightest little insult. A normal healthy person can shake off a temporary 25% reduction in respiratory function. The fat fucks are already short of breath and lungs working as best they can. When they get sick it's starts a precipitous series of reactions and their shit collapses. I'm seeing some vent settings as stupid as a peep of 19while prone and they still don't make it. They obviously don't care about their own health and well-being so why should we have to suffer just for a slight chance they might not catch it?

My job wasn't effected somehow (trades, all on new construction industrial buildings), so I get to just work 40 hour weeks on empty jobsites with next to no supervision or people there. It's slowly getting back to normal, but the last couple months have been chill as fuck. Except for going to restaurants and the movies, my life hasn't really changed at all. I just got to shop in empty stores, not wait in lines at the vendor, drive as fast as I wanted because cops didn't give a fuck anymore about traffic stops, etc, it was pretty based desu. A few times I walked down the middle of usually busy streets because my city was a complete ghost town and I thought "why live life without whimsy?".

But that's from the perspective of someone who smelled something off from the beginning and didnt really change his life or isolate at all. Now that things are picking up again, these social distancing measures make every outdoor experience an absolute fucking nightmare. This better not be the new fucking normal like I keep hearing. The scary thing is there are hardly any examples in history where people had their rights "temporarily" taken away and then actually got them back.

Hospitals and the economy in general require money. Would you spend every last money you have to save an African child's life? It's an expensive treatment but it will allow it to live a whole additional 6 weeks. Let's assume you are a billionaire in this situation. Less extreme example, is it worth spending $500k to get another year of life for a quadriplegic? How about just 100k to patch up an ugly fat nigger on welfare? They might get 5 more years, the 100k comes from a combination of stealing from the hospital by not paying bills, and taxes pay the rest of the bills. Then they get the prescriptions filled on taxpayer money, then they don't take the pills and come back to the ED in two weeks for the same problem every two weeks for the next 5 years, all while living on food stamps, section 8, and other gibs.
You think it's cute and edgy to shit on public servants. I don't fully buy into the hero meme but Healthcare is hard work that goes unappreciated and a majority of our customers don't deserve to live. If you had even a room temp iq you'd be able to realize this intuitively. Human life has value, a very real value. A value that can be counted, quantified, and measured in dollars. Is it better to hurt a thousand good people in some small way, like losing their jobs, maybe they gev evicted or car repossessed, they might have to change their budgets up and eat lower quality food, they can't exercise or enjoy parks and recreational activities, that kind of thing. In exchange an obese drug addicted child abuser with 5 children from 8 different fathers(one miscarriage, one abortion, one beat to death) is able to continue their life for a little while longer.
You're a fucked up disgusting person who should be hanged in the streets if you support this senseless and extremely harmful lockdown over a very mild virus that very specifically selects for the very worst people in society.

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean about class consciousness though. There are countless (if not hundreds of) millions of working class people in the states who have been made to believe that having businesses reopen is in their personal interest and is "right". They come to believe it because of a culture of "hustling for the american dream of making it" that is created and instilled in them by a tiny slice of wealthy people, precisely because it keeps workers working (chasing the carrot), with no actual reality of achieving it. It's ironic that these blue collar people fight so hard against their own class interests. In non-pandemic times these are the same working class people who believe in trickle-down economics.

This pandemic has been an incredible reminder for people who are paying attention that even when the country is locked down there is more than enough wealth still being generated to support us all, if wealth were fairly distributed. Pretty much all the billionaires have increased their wealth by many billions--- Bezos something like 25B. All the libertarians like >>19211305 are crying about muh socialism bad but the reality is that no reasonable person needs a billion dollars to themselves, in a sane society.

The funny thing is that I and many others I know of would rather vote for trump than Biden, and same in 2016 with hillary. Personally I think we need 4 more years of this absolutely chaotic shitshow of trump for the idiot Dems to realize that they can't keep running centrists to just get politics back to "the way it was," which is code for a way of life that benefits an increasingly small sliver of comfortable upper middle class people. Other people I know in the same position wanted Bernie in 2016 and ended voting Trump when hillary was nominated. They are just as embattled financially and were/are sick of politics and want something different.

The funnier thing is that some of Trumps policies especially since COVID are more to the left than many of the dems stances and policies. For one: fighting against globalism so American workers get jobs with 5x the pay of chinese workers and then we have to reckon with capitalism at home, and whether or not its sustainable. Remember that the Dems are basically just republicans who want more gay black hedge fund managers. They are what in the rest of the world are center-right politics.

If you think that intelligence agencies weren't aware of the virus and its potential threat months ago, you're a dummy.

The reason that the US got hit so hard is because preventative measures were not taken in advance. We didn't send people to Wuhan until it was too late, our communication and collaboration with other countries was extremely poor, and our initial responses and tracking were nearly non-existent.

The people in charge did nearly nothing that they should have from the start and did everything they could to use the epidemic as a political agenda. This isn't incompetence, it's malicious intent. We're forced to open back up now, despite still barely having control, because we didn't take proper measures when we should have and are too far in the hole not to. The country literally cannot afford to cut off business for another 2 weeks.

None of this would have happened under a competent and less-corrupt administration. This isn't a partisan issue, it's an issue of utter corruption at the highest levels and a lackadaisical attitude towards doing the right thing, rather than doing what is most profitable for the top echelons. This isn't a political issue, it's an issue with people not realizing just how bad things have gotten.

Wake the fuck up. Whoever you are, wake the fuck up. The whole country needs to wake the fuck up and stop buying into the bullshit. Realize that we've all been had. Realize that a dangerous natural-disaster just swept through the nation due to malicious incompetence so that it could be used to further the political and fiscal agendas of a bunch of greedy cocksuckers who own you and everything you know.

Absolutely stellar comparison, now just think about the following for a second:
300k Covid deaths in 4 months vs 1.3m car deaths in 12 months
75k dead / month for corona, 108k dead / month for cars
Yes I guess you could say cars are deadlier if you completely ignore the fact that cars are going 24/7/365, on the other hand corona produced that death toll while we essentially stopped the globe and JUSTed the economy just to reduce it.
And this is not factoring in countries lying about their deaths, just look at Russia's death count while being the 2nd in number of cases, plus being a cold country, or Florida attempting to manipulate numbers in favor reopening because they were so bad.
Face it, this is unknown territory, it's nowhere near fair to compare it to common colds or car deaths.

we didn't shut down the economy that time. and looks like we'll be achieving the same total deaths regardless.

If anything, deaths are being manipulated because they are wildly exaggerated.

I don’t care about the economy as much as the power creep of government. Going forward they can shut down for anything they deem as threatening enough and strip our rights on the whim of the powerful. If that doesn’t concern you, you just aren’t a student of history.

This image is good but that range can be tightened up at this point. We know mortality is at most ~0.3% and R0 is estimates around 5.7. Unironically don't think it has the potential to to explode with current metrics, even with all the data fudging that went on. pic related.
