Are you Anons satisfied with what your degree has gotten you so far in terms of position & salary? Would you go back and pursue a different field if you could/wanted?
Got my Master's and it seemed to have shut more doors than its opened. Stuck in a great paying job but one of the most degrading fields. Convinced a Master's is the real scam so far.

Not at all, I’m a young lawyer, IP specialist, fluent in 4 languages, law firms sucks massive gorilla balls, most unfun places to work ever, full of egotistical maniacs and drug abusers, pay is not so good for the shit you put up to go through. I live in a Latin America full of commies, so guess what, last year I took a big loan and started buying real state through auctions, cash money is losing its purchasing power by day and I’m getting solid properties that go up in value. Already doubled my capital.
I could have skipped the whole painfully stressing meme of becoming a lawyer.
Sure gets you bragging rights at least in this shithole, but not worth it, the only good thing is that I would never had the opportunity to do this unless I had this formal education. Also roasties digs lawyers fashion, and cougars tend to be around.

Based. Congrats on that Anon. I was close to pursuing law school, but decided to go the CS route. Your firm sounds like where I'm currently working honestly. Do you see yourself moving firms anytime soon, or do you plan to just get away from practicing law some point soon since you're killing it with real estate?

I got a MAcc. I'm not a huge fan of my job but it pays obscenely well and the upward mobility if I want to put in the hours is nutty. I'd rather just coast from 75 to 120 over the next 5-10 years and keep working 50 average. Kinda comfy. Besides nobody wants to pay me $40 an hour to play Sion all day so my dream job is out the window.

I do like some parts of it since I'm doing variance analysis and budgeting, which sits well with my autism. Mainly the pay/job security are really good so I can't complain. I knew what I was getting into.

0 sympathy for all these morons taking out mortgages to get English degrees or whatever. They dug their own graves there.

Yes, I'm satisfied with what my degree got me. If it was easy I'd be bored.

Got a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Completely worthless degree, I was young and followed my boomer parents advice that every other millenial got. "Just get a college degree and you'll be fine. It's a one way ticket to the middle class!" And "Study something you're interested in and passionate about". LIES! Even though my degree sucks I did learn a lot of social skills in college that I wouldn't have otherwise which has made a difference in my career. So there's that.

If I could go back I'd study finance or economics but I'm not falling for the college meme again. I grinded for a few years in car sales and long story short now work a mid tier job in banking. Make about $65k/yr which works well since my area has relatively low cost of living. Also make some extra from my rental property.

Protip: look at a college degree as an investment. What will you get in return for what you spend?

I stopped working at law firms around three years ago. I had a crisis, you see big law firms and I imagine other big enterprises have the same “slave away your time” philosophy, we pay good money give us your soul kind of deal, I was exhausted really early, 4 years of lawyer stuff, I sold everything and moved to Beijing for a year to learn the language, and hopefully make connections.
My guess is that is probably better to focus on real state at least here in LATAM.
I will try to not get burnt between deals, because I’m still not a guru on this topic, the upside is that you can probably make the money equivalent of a year of salary in just 3-4 months, about 60k, without much sweat.

Like the others, I studied Law but didn't feel like going into the profession after seeing enough of what it was like. You're colleagues are either psychopaths or criminally incompetent while your boss will make sure he gets his pound of flesh for every penny he pays you.

Still found it a good use of my time. I gained useful skills for my current career in the civil service and escaped the cycle of telesales, data entry and unemployment that made me feel so worthless I regularly thought about suicide.

>Got my Master's and it seemed to have shut more doors than its opened

Yeah, my Master's was a complete waste of time as well.

>Would you go back and pursue a different field if you could/wanted?

No because I'm old. Have kept doing distance learning though, it gives a rewarding feeling of progression in my life.

BS in Biochem, 31k in debt total as of May 2016 Took 3 months to find a job and it was entry level lab tech 3rd shift making $19/hr. The job was terrible and I left by August 2016. I completely felt lost and betrayed. What they didn’t emphasize was the importance of connections/networking when I was cramming for chem finals. Fast forward 2 years working for various temp agency jobs, I had finally found something that was truly marketable and what I should have studied to begin with. I started my current job as a mortgage underwriter making roughly 60k in October 2019 and I’m down to 17k in debt with all of them federal and deferred thanks to Covid-shitteen. I got a degree in accounting, spent several years working data entry jobs that were related to accounting making a few dollars an hour more than minimum wage. I finally got what I would consider a real accounting job a few years back, where I actually worked under a cpa. I started taking the cpa exam, passed all four, and then they hired new people and made my job part time and told me to find new work cause they will never pay me what a cpa would expect.

A few months later I got an auditing job for the state, I think there is a very real chance I will be laid off due to budget cuts.

If I had to do it over again I don't think I would have gone to college in the first place. Basically, with all the time I spent going to college and becoming a cpa and looking at how much money I make and the job offers I get, I feel scammed. I think I would have been better off doing something else, but now that I'm here I might as well do this as it's going to make me more than any career change I might do.

Worked one customer rep job (35k/yr) which sucked but padded my resume, then moved to new york and got a placeholder adjuster job that was insanely easy and boring (45k/yr). But just this past month I got a new job working as an underwriter in the financial district. Huge increase in pay and now I have a lot of potential for long term growth. Will probably eventually go into consulting within underwriting and ideally work remotely in a comfy area while making real good money.
