What are you talking about?

Roth IRA - I take $6000 from my bank account and open a Roth IRA with it. I invest that $6000 however I want. My dividends aren't taxed. My gains aren't taxed. I can withdraw the principal (the initial contribution) at any time. When I withdraw the PROFITS from my Roth IRA, I pay no taxes if I "qualify"

> The IRS considers a withdrawal to be "qualified"—and therefore, tax-free and penalty-free—if you've had a Roth IRA for at least five years and the withdrawal is taken:

>When you're age 59½ or older,
>Because you have a permanent disability,
>By a beneficiary or your estate after your death, or
>To buy, build, or rebuild your first home (a $10,000 lifetime maximum applies).

Theres more but I'm not doing any more of your homework for you. If you have $6000 you're sure you're not going to need, and you don't have an IRA, open a fucking Roth IRA and trade freely in that account.

Fellow TVIX chads, I've done some VIX analysis.

I'll save you the details and give you the facts
>After the first spike, record the high (in this case $1000) and multiply it by 0.73. This is the next theoretical high of the next spike ($730).
>given the range I used for this average, expect to sell your TVIX between $700 and $730

However, this above case is for when the low is ONLY retested, not surpassed. Given the bad financial data, the low may be surpassed but that cannot be guaranteed.

The 2008 financial crisis did almost a double peak but TVIX did not exist at that time but TVIX has done an
double peak with a previous high revisited even when the VIX did not, but not usually after a period of inactivity, making hitting $900-1000 very unlikely.

>If we did see another leg down though, multiply the high ($1000) by .84 giving 840
>The range you can expect if there is another leg down is potentially between $800 to $840

I haven't reviewed time scales, but my guestimate is that it'll take all of May to finish the leg down if we hit it, making the peak near the end of May. It took 27 days from the start to the peak of $1000 of TVIX.

Coincentally, the initial drop started on a Thursday (5/20 2020). Just a side fact. Yesterday, Thursday (4/30 2020) was a similar down day and today (5/1 2020) was a large down day, similar to the subsequent Friday of 5/21 2020.

>Why wouldn't this already be priced in?
Miners get those mining bitcoins every 10 minutes 24 hours a day every day of the year and it adds up to a lot of downward pressure on the price. I think the market underestimates this to an extent and when that pressure is cut in half we'll get a pump. I still have a couple of meme bitcoins in my electrum wallet so I'm hoping for it. If not then whatever I guess

Calm down Anon.
Maybe I was thinking of 401ks. I know that the 401k is tax-deferred, grows tax-free, and after a certain age withdrawals are mandatory so taxes will not be staved off forever. A Roth IRA looks like earnings are never ever taxed but only if I wait until I am ready for retirement. That locks away $6k of my annual income every year whereas with a taxable account I always have access to my money. I do make good money so perhaps I can split the difference and put some in one and some in another.

That's how it always is. 4chan is still the king of the internet meme. The format on Reddit actually doesn't support meme generation well because images can only be posted (and seen without clicking a link) in the OP of a thread. Reddit is not an image board. Its also why Reddit has fucking cringe as fuck text based memes that form, since those are more easily spammed across the site.
4chan is the king of memes, Reddit just steals them and makes them shitty, and then the rest of the internet takes the kid friendly Reddit version and acts like Reddit invented the meme.

Not exactly, you can take out that 6k later on, just not the gains from that 6k.

So if you double your 6k investment, you can take that 6k out no problem, and then theres 6k left in the account for you to invest with until you take it out in retirement without ever paying taxes on it.

also you can take out 10k of your gains for your first home or those other exceptions in the link.

Added analysis:

Monday will probably be green or a fuck huge red candle.

Looking at the daily candles of the drop in March shows that the market didn't go down without a fight and even though TVIX went to $1000, it was still a battle of gap ups and gap downs back and forth until $1000 was achieved.

Steady hands will be required.

The momentum for the sell side has been building over the last three weeks. There have been at least two or three other downturns where the SPX was only propped up due to huge pressers or futures pumps (or both). Buy volume has been decreasing for two weeks, and every red day has seen increasing sell volume. I think the majority of the past few weeks have been the resistance. If we get a small sell-off before a slower grind to the bottom, it might not have as much resistance this time around. People have been buying the dips, but if they see that the markets failed to break out into a V-shaped recovery, they might be hesitant about buying back in again until things settle. That would finally be a move out of the persistent greed/speculation we've been seeing and into the expected despair and capitulation phases.

It's too hard to call a numerical bottom, as the QE distorts valuations, but if we were to go by historical market averages, a mean 15 P/E for the SPX, down from our 22-ish right now, would take us from 2800ish down to 1900ish. Note that a mean P/E of 22 for the SPX is still remarkably high, historically, and we're going into a short recession. To make things more complicated is the bleak economic outlook for the year, which could result in even further downside risk. I've been conservatively expecting to retest the March 23rd low, with perhaps a little more downside. At the same time, I would not at all be surprised if it drops well below that. I've seen some super bears target 1500 or so. I don't know about that, but, we'll see. I don't sit into bear or bull camp, I just try and figure out what trends make sense economically and historically.

I don't disagree, but I think the next leg down is going to take a good deal longer than the first leg was. The first leg was caused by massive shutdowns, uncertainty, and lack of liquidity. The second leg down will be rebalancing of overbought stocks, markets sussing out the real damage of the shutdown and job losses and lack of consumer spending, and the Fed maaaaaaybe having lower QE.
But I will say, the trigger was definitely AMZN missing earnings. If they can't beat earnings, just imagine how many other companies are getting their asses beat right now, and will well into Q2. Another earnings to watch will be SHOP. If they miss, then its really bad for not just physical retail, but e-commerce retail as well.

I'm really bullish on gold and silver long-term purely because this ridiculous financial policy is gonna be the new normal. We might only see gold and silver beat inflation for awhile, but at some point people are gonna lose faith in our dollar if we need to prop up zombie companies and go brrrrr every decade. I don't really know if we have a run up in 2020 though.

Real estate is interesting, I've been thinking about it and can't really decide which way it goes. I think with the drought of sellers, prices could stay pretty high for awhile. I do hope they get lower so my bf and I can get a house sooner.

>Earnings Spotlight: Newmont (NEM, $61.00) – It’s a good time to be a gold mining company like Newmont. Gold prices are up by double digits so far this year while the market has retreated by about 10%, and NEM shares have jumped by 37%. A variety of factors – but namely the uncertainty around COVID-19’s global economic impact as well as low interest rates – are poised to keep gold propped up, says JPMorgan’s Tyler Langton, prompting the analyst to raise his price target in April from $61 per share to $70. For the quarter to be reported before the May 5 open, analysts are looking for a whopping 49.5% jump in revenues to $2.7 billion, filtering down to a 27.3% improvement in profits to 42 cents per share.

Indexing has some institutional problems as well. You're holding a basket of stocks that represent the US economy however in a recession there are either major restructurings with winners and losers or there are bailouts and infinite cheap credit leading to a situation like Japan with no long-term growth. Their portfolio is also by definition more heavily weighted towards overvalued stocks than undervalued ones. So major gains from stocks mooning doesn't actually help the portfolio much, they only gain if there's a general market rally.

We've had stupid easy credit since 2008. It's what has given us perpetual zombie corporations like Uber or any one of the 13% of corporations that in february couldn't pay interest payments on their debt.
A lot of that easy credit has flowed into, among other things, stock buybacks. This in turn has made the entire stock market valuation explode relative to GDP, which should be the underlying "collateral" of the market. TARP also eliminated the actual risk of dangerous or risky investment. Boeing did a lot of what they did/are doing because they knew they'd be supported no matter how many stupid or greedy decisions they made.
You also can't raise interest rates without killing the growing number of zombies. And in the zombies there is employment.
