Options are supposed to be for hedging but they can also be used for a highly leveraged directional play and the further OTM the strike the higher the leverage will be. Just multiply the underlying price by the delta and divide by the price of the option to see what the effective leverage is. A $5 spy put is probably good for 1000x and since it's impossible to get "margin called" on that leverage it's safe to play around with it
