Robinhood is good if you're broke as shit because they just have you ask yes/no questions to determine your competency. Actual brokerage services might have a guy call you and quiz you on how options work before enabling it on your account. And other brokers might have a bigger selection of shit to invest in and better pricing for some stuff.

tl;dr If you're retarded, RH probably has the last amount of safeguards to prevent you from bankrupting yourself.

This overly bullish trend kinda sucks, all in all. I'm all okay for markets to go up, I mean, that's why I'm there in the first place. I wish, but considering how the whole narrative is built upon preventing that, I really don't know. You have medias hyping up dubious treatments, talking about "peak" instead of plateauing for week (as if after the peak everything would be over in 2 days), Trump snipe-tweeting EXACTLY at the right moments to prop up the markets, making well timed conferences, tweeting fake news about oil agreements, short selling getting banned, the FED printing billions over billions. Honestly, at some point, you just can't fight that. The whole Road roller is going full steam ahead, and fighting them end up by being ran over.

He's paid the debt down like clockwork and kept the Fat Divvy nice and safe to boot. He's given the Govt the middle finger when they tried to block the Time Warner deal. Now people are using His network like crack to stream and send all sorts of things, nasty things oh yes, but still hey data is data and those bills will get paid by the sheep who use His network. No doubt decay is real and it might be a year or so before things go back to "stonks only go up retard mode" but in the meantime I'm still sitting on about 130k cash and I've been selling the shit out of puts so I'm dealing with the decay. Basically I sell puts at spots where I would have "bought the dip" like today I bought back a couple of April 17th puts that would have broke even at SOXL going to 65 and 55 dollars. Tomorrow I'll probably sell them again for the May expiration. If I get assigned, great. If not, free money. And when things stabilize some I'll start selling calls since I have so many shares. And there's still the 130k on the sidelines. I'm hoping to end up with at least 500-750k by some time in 2021 through smart trading. We'll see.

The problem is that the market is built on sentiment rather than reality. Logically everything should be going down and yet we are having rallies like if this was nothing more than a flash crash. Logically we are no where near being done with the virus and yet all it takes is for people to hear the word 'maybe plateauing' with a grand total of 2 days worth of statistics on a weekend and everyone starts losing their minds thinking they are at the bottom. Nothing make sense and honestly I think its just best to be a short term bull.

It's the reason there are so many commission-free services in the US, in general they all do that. If you're paying, they usually don't do this.

>wst
A commission-free, though barebones, trading platform in canada: WealthSimple Trade. Doesn't do margin, doesn't do options, restricts available stocks so you can't touch low-volume and low-value stocks, etc.
They claim most of their money comes from the 1.5% currency conversion they charge both ways when transacting US stocks, but they plan to reduce/remove this fee and have USD-holding accounts. We'll see if that ever happens.

>So why isnt there 99cent
Interactive Brokers offers $1/trade but also has a $10 "maintenance credit" monthly fee (if you trade $10 worth, you don't pay anything, if you trade $5 worth, you pay $5 extra at the end of the month, and so on).

>or commission free trading?
Jews. Anytime such a possibility became a thing, new regulations were put in place to prevent that from happening.

My SDOW's not feeling so good today, /smg/. I'm just going to take a break to focus on other things until the markets turn around. The important thing here is not to get caught up in short-term volatiliry and price movements, and to keep a long-term perspective. Remember that stock valuations are historically very high even now. We just need to keep the fundamentals in perspective and invest with an adequate margin of safety (like the coronavirus ravaging the world and crashing the global economy), and our investments will deliver their returns in their season.

The gist is that vanguard is the best because their ownership model is like a coop, those that have the most money in there call the shots. They want lower fees because they have a lot of money.

Fidelity is still privately owned so as long as the founding family is happy, they are okay.

schwab is publicly owned so shareholders call the shots

I know I won’t fucking learn investing good enough to completely understand even half of the stuff here on time. So i am going in a very stupid way, but most logical for my current situation.

From my very limited perspective... gold is something that will for sure result in long term profits, right? The government wont allow mining companies to collapse. The graph shows jnug was at $95 and now it is at a whopping $5.20. I have $2700 in my account that are going to a upfront payment in a financed car anyways so i have nothing to lose.

I am VERY confident that the coronavirus will fade away in no less than 2 months. If not the world is doomed anyways so fuck it. According to my calculations it is possible to make up to $19000 if i invest $1000. I know this is spare change for some people here but it would literally change my life.

Should i go? Is my logic correct?

Click on a link if you don't understand a term. Do not touch anything you do not understand, digging yourself out of a hole sucks. Do this, save part of your money every month or paycheck, and put it in your broker(preferably a retirement plan) and put 80% in VTSAX or VOO, these will track the market. Use 20% to learn about the market by investing in your own picks. Nothing is better than seeing a decision pay off, and the gains from VTSAX and VOO will make sure if you choose wrong you aren't financially ruined.

They usually have a bunch of older relatives holding onto their of scripts, and since they're mexican they don't give a shit about breaking the law by selling their pills. Most of them probably don't even know it's illegal in the first place, they just think the nice white boy wants to buy their unused medications for "back pain". as a leveraged ETF, JNUG copies the daily move of a basket of mining companies, leveraged 3x. so if the basket moves up 3%, JNUG gains 9%. if the basket drops 2%, JNUG falls 6%.

it's easier to go down than up. if you gain 10% at $50, you net $5, but losing 10% at $70 loses you $7. if the market does not have consistent upward movement, you can expect every down day to be greater than the up days with respect to ETF value. this is ETF decay.

don't base your calculations on what used to be. ask yourself if you truly think that JNUG can go up 2,000%. that implies the basket moves up almost 700%.

All bull and bear team shit aside I really think todays bump is unsustainable with such low volume and the sentiment not really being behind the move up. I think we'll get down to the 210-230s again then make a surprisingly quick recovery back to the 300s by August. Once ventilator production ramps up and there is a halfway decent drug therapy available things will start to open back up. The purpose of flattening the curve was to allow time for production and hospitals to tool up. We probably won't be allowed to have gatherings of 25+ people for a while. Non essential businesses will have to adapt somehow to allow for lower volumes of people to be inside their stores.

What do you guys think?

...No. The Chy-na virus is like 10% of the worries right now. I don't know how many times I have to ramble off that the gross aggregate of the market has not grown since 2012. The price increases are due to speculative inflation and buybacks that aren't sustainable due to the bonds issued to perform them. Certain companies incapable of weathering this, or companies that are highly exposed are liable to have their credit downgraded, meaning less credit to be issued to them while they try and recoup their already staggering losses, dragging price down.

True price discovery is a critical feature of this downturn, but the Fed is fighting it tooth and nail as the whole market is suspended by illusions to inflate the values of practically all equities. We're talking a correction down another 60% by some estimates to reflect actual fair value.

Then there's all the cascade effects from this. This will more than likely come in a series of waves, and the handling of them is absolutely critical, it will be the difference between the Spanish Flu 2: 5 Times Deadlier Boogaloo or an oscillating downtrend (depending on who you ask). And the cut budgets due to hospitalizations, lost jobs, increased debt from panic shopping. Things like the after-effects of the Fed's meddling. There's a ton of shit going on. Market is broken.

I'd recommend just going for 1x leveraged ETFs. If it were brainlessly easy to turn $1k into $19k, everyone would be doing it. Realistically most things are priced in, not in the way /biz/ jokes where everything is always known in advance, but such that every bet on the market gives you either a 49% return or a 51% return on average. If an option can turn $1k into $10k, you can be fairly sure it's only about 10% likely to happen, and whether you invest a little of your stack depends on whether you think that likelihood is actually 9% or 11%. But even if it's 11%, investing more than a small amount of your stack is retarded.

If you're investing your meagre life savings, you need to invest in something safe and low return or you're just feeding the house. The ultimate example of this is a savings account returning 1%pa, but if you don't need to touch the money for a while, now is probably an ok time to DCA into a LOW RISK etf
