I'm finishing up my first year at a big state university. Currently, I'm on the path to getting some sort of liberal arts degree (poli sci, economics, history etc.). Am I just wasting my fucking time? I don't enjoy college in particular, and I'm worried my degree won't be worth shit once I'm out. I get straight As, I'm just bored and depressed all the time.

Why the hell would I get advice from fucking failures? I just need some solid information/statistics about the practicality of a liberal arts degree in this day and age. It seems like, depending on the person you ask, it ranges from "completely essential" to "worse than a waste of time". What's the actual reality?

You're getting straight A's because you're taking 101's/core requirement classes, which are a joke.

As far as your major is concerned pick something that will help you land your first 2 decent jobs (economics is an okay all-rounder, the others are more specialized for work in the academic field). You're still in your first year, so try something you don't totally hate but still challenges you. I'd say more people in college change their major at least once.

Schedule your shit out and try, TRY to make at least 2-3 real friends. I thought college sucked because I'm really not a type-A person, either, but if you at least have some buddies to drink with it's bearable. I nearly gave up before I make a few friends. As long as they aren't total assholes or autists you should be okay.

>Describes reality
>Proceeds to ask about same reality
You obviously know the answer but you are unsure about the decision.

>Am I just wasting my fucking time?
If you don't know the answer to this, its more than likely yes.

>I'm worried my degree won't be worth shit once I'm out.

Too many degrees with too little value

Look for specific jobs that require x degree and find companies you would want to work for. Find their salaries, availability, etc. Pay attention to economic trends that may affect that particular market. Also work on developing entrepreneurial skills.

It would be easier to elaborate with specifics.

Why don't you just go out and join a few local college clubs or groups or something?
Meet some new people so you don't feel so depressed all the time, or just live an active life. Take up some new hobbies, or create more value to yourself so you know that you are worth something.

It seems like that's your case. Is that you are depressed because you feel like your college degree will be worthless and you're doing something for nothing.

Try doing something, for something.
Aka instead of just doing shit you know may not land you somewhere, do things that you know will make you a more valuable human being to others and yourself.

I mean think about it. Why are art majors usually depressed? Because their entire major is about "muh feelings".
Why do people freak out that they aren't going to make a bunch of money or get a degree after college? because they know they aren't getting a degree that will get them a job.

Everything is relevant bro. The question isn't about how you feel, it's about what you're willing to do about it.

Liberal arts can be valuable, but only if you view it as a networking opportunity. Join a fraternity. Join some social groups.

If you're on 4chan, it probably is a waste of time.

OK OP. Get your straight A's and get your fucking degree. A 4.0 GPA is a great thing to put on a resume. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. It's a fucking achievement.

Personally, I think anthropology is a very interesting field of study that has a lot of business applications.

Study what truly interests YOU. I used my anthropology degree to get a job in HR and recruiting.

As for depression, don't harp on it. It happens to literally ANYONE. If you can learn how to stop that sort of slippery slope thinking sooner rather than later it will help you out tremendously.
