se at the New York City parade largely weren't concerned.

“I’m not worried because there haven’t been any confirmed cases in New York, as far as I know," said Diana Szeto, 24, in town to visit her mother and attending the parade for the first time. She considered wearing a mask, she said, but didn’t care enough to go buy one.

David Youtz, 60, came from New Haven, Connecticut, to march in the parade along with four of his children, adopted from China.

“We want to have our kids involved in Chinese culture,” he said. The virus wasn't getting in the way of that.

“In the U.S., there’s very low reason for concern. ... We weren’t worried at all.”

Yesterday was low volume despite the quick rise. Futures probably would be a good 3% in the red this evening if no progress had been made on the bill. Holding the majority of yesterday's gains in to close would be a big show of support for the stimulus. Stay tuned.

The fundamental situation is all over the place here. Upside depends on speculative buying coming in to position for the eventual recovering. If these prices aren't cheap enough to get lots of buy volume in from that direction, the rally will putter out and the lows will be tested again. TA situation is more clear. S&P needs to at least hold current level on above average volume for one and a half trading sessions to generate a buy signal on my stuff. In that scenario is would be the higher risk early signal. The conservative buy signal needs three days of buyers mostly maintaining control of the price action and rejecting sell off attempts.

>joint US-Saudi neo-opec+ being floated
This has potential. It'll be a sticky negotiation with probably a lot of yelling and stamping of feet, possible shoe throwing, but there's something there. If US can bring the Saudis in to a deal, the rest of OPEC will follow. Join forces to fuck over Russia, Kazakhstan, Iraq. The US oil industry alone isn't sufficient to woo the Saudis but there is plenty of other stuff the US can do for them in exchange.

You realize how fucking retarded you sound right? more people die of second hand smoke in the US in 6 months than have died this shit globally, and we've nearly set the world to mad max times over it.

Do you see people outside in gas mask on the streets of NYC because someone is lighting up a loosie? Do we shut down an entire factory every time someone takes a puff? No?

Okay, so shit the fuck up an listen to people smarter than you, now back to plebbit with you.

The problem is that even if there is a stimulus, there's a huge amount of uncertainty going on. The worst case scenario for the markets is for this to be a long, drawn out process, which at this point is going to be 100% unavoidable due to the inadequate response going across the board. On top of that, people will still be not working or laid off during this and if Trump makes even a portion of non-essential people to get back to work, we're going to have a never-ending outbreak, which further cripples the economy, more layoffs, and more stimulus. It also doesn't help the fact that this is activating class consciousness in the middle and lower class ("lol why the fuck do i have debt if the government can just bail out companies like that") and the last thing any industry wants is a worker that questions the system.

I think that the short take on the PM market right now might be this:

weird spreads, price movement, and market behavior are pretty much inevitable if you shut down big chunks of the economy, have huge moves in equities, etc. All kinds of big players looking to adjust and cover various things.
So what we are seeing in the PM markets right now (bit of instability) would be happening EVERYWHERE (bonds, mortgages, etc. etc.) if the Fed didn't wade into things last week swinging a big cock. They probably aren't rushing too much to add liquidity to the gold market because frankly, it isn't really that important.

best I can do right now. If there is some stranger voodoo going on, we'll find out about it when the headlines hit

I'm not against buying gold at these prices, but I'm not really for it. If it really starts to pump it could be a nice trade (momentum following could take it pretty high).

I think that a lot of people see an inflationary environment ahead, but with equities at these low prices, big money would prefer to buy productive assets (stocks), because inflation will lift those as well. No one wants to get too heavy into gold and then get caught in it with no liquidity, they'd rather hold the cash or low yielding T-bills for safety, even if the inflationary pressures slowly chips away at that. The last couple weeks have shown how nice cash can be, and flexibility to move in and out of equities as needed. Any gold position slows that part of the funds' "engine" down.
I'm just making all this up though.

Inflation doesn't happen as a result of monetary expansion when you're the reserve currency of the world. At least PRICE inflation. Asset inflation certainly.

That's because the industrial supply chain isn't located in the West for most products anymore. It's all located in Asia and as long as the Asians are happy to accept American dollars in exchange for goods, no such break down will occur.

If it did ever happen though....there will be MASSIVE price inflation.

It's very complicated but as long as external actors (read: foreigners) are happy to accept US dollars, then no significant inflation will occur as the origin of supply chains exist outside of the USA.

In the 1960s, America printed up big to pay for Vietnam and LBJ's Great Society stuff. No significant price inflation happened until the Gold window closed and OPEC declared an embargo.

Deflation happens when people lose confidence in the market participants.

Inflation happens when people lose confidence in the entire system.

Where we are right now is deflation. Look at the US dollar's appreciation compared to other currencies in the last month.
