Side note, looks like most people from pol are in the other thread so we can have a nice, quiet, calm time discussing the markets.

I'm generally in agreement with Goldman Sachs in noting that todays boost was machine driven and not investor driven. Thus whatever boost people think they see and feel confident about, should be eyed with suspicion.

Oddly enough, the trading being machine driven mostly, I wonder if that means that there will be trading actions taken by the computers to artificially keep us from hitting exceptionally low levels.

I don't really know myself. Just speculation

Based on his portfolio and the fact that most people on here are not in the Occidental game, very little. But I'll say that his pumping dividend yield stocks at a time when dividends are being suspended (A red flag) is a touch misguided. Personal opinion is if things go back to normal, then yes, get and build stocks that pay out dividends. They're a useful second source of income if you make a habit of continuously buying into the stocks. But not a get rich quick scheme.

I'm glad that switch finally got flipped. It's a hard switch and the younger types (The Crypto kiddies) all seem to have that problem. I tried crypto briefly about a year before the big crash but it's not really a good way to learn how to actually trade so I said fuck it, cashed out, and moved on.
Once that switch happens though, you begin to realize that day to day loses are normal, especially if you're positioned to take advantage of wild swings in the market.

>>18065751
I'm staring at your graph and something is off about it. I recall that the first bill failed and then stocks tumbled on opening. And yeah, double checking the times are a bit off. It had the most dramatic 700 points at once drop (S&P Dropping from 1000 to 940) after voting on the 29th. Which is the range from the first 12am on in your chart.
I agree with your overall asessment but this slight change kind of alters the timeline and correlations a bit. And that, I argue, is crucial to understand initial reactions vs longer term reactions. If you want some quick gains, then that initial reaction is great. We are more or less in the "Senate passes bill" phase, which means that the secondary peak you're seeing will be the false rally.

For now though, I'm going to agree with your assessment. But I think that failing to account for initial failures can change how we perceive future market actions.

Stimulus passed. I'm not really interested in the day to day impact but this is going to make the recovery much healthier and more V shaped than it would have been.

I think the direct injection to consumers of $1200 is the best aspect for restoring activity. This does not solve coronavirus, obviously. This is still a good measure just like the fed activity for incentivizing a quick and speedy recovery to lose the minimum economic activity and health as possible.

Now it becomes all about scaling out testing, improving treatment (getting effective anti virals and getting them into patients upon testing faster for more effectiveness), and blunting this initial curve until such measures are fully in place and scaled.

The race against the virus is still on.

So, I'm a dumb newfag wagie that's worried hyper-inflation isn't just a meme. I could talk to /pmg/ about it, but I don't think I'd get enough opposing viewpoints.
My understanding of brrr it is this:

Hypothetical company doesn't prepare for future. let's just say hookers and drugs to keep it simple.
It runs into problems and asks for a bailout so it won't have to fire the hookers.
Fed prints a trillion dollars and gives it to the company in exchange for I.O.U.s from Uncle Sam.
Uncle Sam now owes Fed 1 trillion.
Company continues spending money on hookers.
There are now more dollars in circulation.

What am I overlooking? Google tells me there's 1.7 trillion in circulation and 23.3 trillion in nation debt. It makes me uneasy.

Doenst matter if it was or not, at this point. It's a virus that gives you super pneumonia if you are unlucky or unhealthy. And in America that virtually everyone. The only focus should be stopping it and containing those that are infected from spreading to to another person. Itll crash the economy, sure. But anon I can promise you, it's better to be broke for a few years than to die or have permanent irreversible internal physical damage. Everybody takes health for granted until you dont have it. There are investments to be made, markets will adjust, but responsible moms arent letting ther kids go to school until this shit calms down. Investors want security above all else. What planet do you live in where whites and blacks share hospitals when they aren't even living together. Whites live in the ssuburbs and blacks in urban ghettos. Shit is going to suck for dinner city people everywhere, especially sanctuary cities.

Sure we dont kiss when we greet and leave like they do, likely the reason for high infection rates. But all you have to do is touch it to get it. Maybe you get sick , maybe you dont. Are you willing to bet your life on it? Most of the population is gathered in dense area in usa. And most Americans are unsanitary. Do you want to touch that card reader after some 330lb sheboon just used it? Or fill your car up with gas after soccer momjust got done wiping the snot of her kids face. You might catch the flu or a cold, but this isn't those. This is much like 911 in how itll change the world. We can see that already. Buying long stocks is too risky especially considering all the morons that take our tax money and claim to work for us. Do you really think these people care about our well being. Lol. Best investment would be to bet against it doing well, but if the frs stepping in with a 10ntrillion dollar bet it gives people hope. Most people dont even know where money comes from anon. Bet long if you want, I hope you are right, I'll hold major doubts on anybody telling me it's just a flu, bro, especially if they are worth billions. Billionaires like having billions more than anything else and will kill anybody to keep it, or else they will kill themselves

Please explain how people die from a bad economy. You sound like a Shapiro or Kirk shill. If you have food and shelter you wont die. Maybe you kys, but that means you are a mental midget and that's God just sorting out the trash

If you run out of money literally for food+YOUR BILLS (since this is the real world and all). Most Americans are earning shit like 45k a year and don't have a grand saved up. Not saying I'm like that but I know this will be a huge problem for some. Sorry we can't all be champagne socialists like you.

Man it's ironic because earlier I get called unethically for wanting to go back to work after 2 weeks. You are free to hate a majority of Americans if it makes you feel better about yourself.

DOW is going to be pretty green, everything else is going to be slightly green. Most of the bailouts are for DOW stocks I believe?

I mean the fact I have to spell out what a majority of Americans are living like economically and how much debt they have and how the economic shut down is way worse for them than the virus kind of tells me you guys are out of touch with most people....

Uhhhh thanks for sharing your opinion anon. But that doesn’t have anything to do with what I asked except they both reference the same place.

Like it or not, LA (and New York) have a massive influence on the US economy. I suspect race riots in LA could really spook the country. And probably the markets.

If you literally put the whole economy on hold for a month that will definitely crash the economy regardless and cause riots. This shit is so retarded. It's like using chemo to fight cancer and getting mama different type of cancer from the chemo.

In hindsight, more than I’m comfortable with.

I don’t think this is over. Credit spreads are wider at the close every day. 10 year yield rising... Oil rising but not enough to do a whole lot.

That’s pretty much the dilemma. People are going to die either way. And we’re likely in a global recession no matter what we do.

>> No.18069378

>>18069343
More people will die from the economy collapsing even with Corona at its highest mortality rate though... wtf do people not get about this? We are way more likely to see riots from the economic fall out from this rather than a bunch of dying people marching on the street when everyone is home.
