I look at that real estate and I see a class A multitenant mixed use condo/retail property that can net me a 9% cap rate each year, likely 11%+ if I can navigate my tax laws and capital expenditures properly. Ontario is the worst possible example you could pick to complain about Crown land. The entire SW area where 95% of the population lives is privately owned, and if you go way up north there's so much extra land they're basically giving it away. It's some of the cheapest in Canada.
Yeah, there's a LOT of Crown land by volume, but it's mostly frozen uninhabitable forest that no one has any use for except logging companies.

If you want to really see problems caused by insufficient private land ownership go look the BC coast.
