Think of what a median is. The companies that will be the hardest hit (and least likely to receive government bailouts) are the small businesses. The median stock is probably a very small-cap stock. The average, if weighted by market cap, would be very heavily biased toward the big boys.

For what it's worth, I made some very good returns last year selling covered calls. However, if I had just bought and held the stocks, I could have made a lot more money by selling them at opportune times.
