Can someone explain to me why they don't just freeze the economy in place right now? Just shut down the stock market until the pandemic is over and everything will go back to normal. If we let everything continue dumping like this, a lot of companies are going to go bankrupt.

Freeze bank accounts then and have the government distribute money to people for essential things like food and medicine during the lockdown.

During World War II, the government compelled all industries to shift production for the war effort and instituted food rationing to make sure that there was enough food to go around. This is kind of a similar situation.

This correction was badly needed anyways. There wss so many companies trading at preposterous multiples of their profits, and a handful of companies trading at delirious divide by zero multiples of their ZERO dollar profitability.

Nah the US during WWII was basically nat-soc not communist. We operated like Nazi Germany's economy wherein the private sector worked in close concert with the government and the government got what they needed done by offering contracts and giving them to the lowest bidder

Our neighbors and countries we supply with foods would suffer.
Trucking and supermarkets can't be shut down otherwise people will get shot for toilet paper and food.

The government can't take over industries because that would basically be communism and we have too many people with guns for the government to take over easily.

Yes, a correction was needed, but a gradual sell-off, not a sharp spike down. Many companies will not survive this who would have otherwise survived a gradual 30% decline over months.

>> No.17912941

No, not really. During WWII your average American on the home front was pretty well taken care of. They had a job, guaranteed food, a place to live, etc. It was a boon to rural areas where the government subsidized farming for the first time in history and farmers could plant knowing they were guaranteed a baseline level of income and they were all private family farms. And even when money was tight you could use your ration cards to barter for things like repair of farm implements. It wasn't communism and it also wasn't adverse for the living conditions of the average American.

That's not how markets work, markets take the stairs up and the elevator down, there's no gradual sell offs...

>> No.17913225

>>17913041
Yes, in a central-bank ran illusionary economy that is how they work. In a true free market it would be like the crypto markets, daily big ups and big downs which would actually be a good thing because it would scare the average yokel out who frankly has never had any business being in stonks to begin with, and it would give money managers better opportunities to make REAL wealth with swing trading versus this BS ponzi scheme we've had for 100 years with measly payouts to normies that just mildly beat inflation.

If one good thing comes out of this I hope we see the death of the 401k and a return to pensions.
