My puts expire on the 27th but I bought them way out of the money. That's where I found them cheap and I still expect SPY to drop like 25% by then anyway, or at least get close enough to get a juicy profit at some point. Like even a 10% drop at some point brings them close enough to in the money to double or triple in value, and we all know that's likely. Of course, if volatility were lower they'd be worthless the entire time, so if VIX drops I have to change my strategy.

I'm buying calls in the same timeframe starting tomorrow when everyone starts bleeding. I'm thinking airlines and cruises if we really are going to get an announced bailout. Otherwise just an index ETF.

Published 8:38 AM ET
Fri, 22 May 2009

As the Federal Reserve throws more and more money at the economic crisis and holds interest rates down at historic lows, it could be inflating a devastating ‘bailout bubble,’ Gerald Celente, director of Trends Research Institute, told CNBC.

We’re looking at a bailout bubble that’s way bigger than the dotcom bubble before it and the real-estate bubble that we’re now getting out of, or attempting to,” Celente said.

“This is unprecedented; the economic system is being restructured,” he said.

The real-estate bubble was born out of the aftermath of the dotcom bubble because the Fed slashed interest rates and made more funds available, according to Celente.

But because the US government now has a vast equity position in financial institutions, it could mean that there is no bouncing back if a bailout-induced bubble bursts, Celente said.

“When this bubble bursts, there’s no reinflating it because of the government intervention into it so deeply,” he said.

“As you look through history, it seems like governments become emboldened by their failures,” he added.

Celente pointed out that according to the Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, the merger of state and corporate powers was called fascism.

“We could call this fascism lite,” he said, referring to the government involvement in free enterprise. “After these kind of catastrophic collapses, sometimes they’re followed by war.”

Decent news.

But. This opens them up to a severe risk for spreading the virus amongst their workforce. I'd bet that this workforce isn't the youngest and are a high risk for death. If a worker dies after this, factories will have to close and instead of getting ahead of the problem it will be a larger problem.

>mass deaths overseas (Europe)
>hospitals overwhelmed overseas (Europe)
>nationwide shut down (USA)
>test kits produced, real and massive scope of the infection revealed (USA)
>hospitals overwhelmed (USA)
>mass deaths (USA)
>end of quarter reports revealing the real economic damage of the nationwide shutdown (USA)
>repeated failure of government interventions in the market failing to stop the decline (USA, Europe, Asia)

All of these are bearish events.
The ONLY positive event would be
>creation AND mass release of a vaccine
But that's a minimum 12 months away. By that time the virus could have burned through the population and killed off up to 30% of everyone who gets it.

>So buying already writer options means I can only lose what I purchased them for. But writing options means I could lose 100x the stock price when exercised?
That is correct. If you want to limit how much you can lose, you should only buy options. Buy calls if you think the price will go up, and buy puts if you think the price will go down. If the option goes up in price, you can sell it before expiration. If it goes down, you can either hold it until it expires or sell it at a loss. But you only ever lose what you spent on it initially.

I don't think blacks will riot for no reason. There has to be a pretext of racism, such as Freddie Gray or Rodney King.

When their grandparents and parents start getting turned away from hospitals due to overcapacity, there will be riots. But not until then.

I use it for my ETFs, i eat the $9.99 trade fee from TD for all my other trades. That said, i buy minimum of $1000 per trade, that way it only costs me at most 1%. Other guy i work with uses Qtrade exclusively has no problems, and he has access to the IQ trading platform ( so he can sit in public and look important ) Otherwise my another co-worker i have uses CIBC, they charge $6.95 per trade i believe.
