If you could take any Master's degree paid for right now, what would you get and why?

>> No.1779379

I probably wouldn't get one, honestly.

I already have one and my feeling is that the payoff is really low and the years spent on it would be better spent on making a business.

I would go into tissue engineering so I can create a viable alternative to livestock and possibly save this god forsaken planet from all the environmental harm being caused by animal agriculture.

Be careful, your cognitive dissonance is showing.

A total meme?

It's probably one of the few majors that won't lead you into a mid-life crisis where you regret whatever else you did

absolutely useless if not a CFA or CPA. you'd be better of just padding your resume with experience

This one is easy for me. MBA in Project Management would get me into a director position in a year in my current career.

Indeed it is.
But c'mon, I've studied both.
Business is some pseudo-science and absolutely useless without experience. Don't get me wrong, with experience it's cool. But since most business majors doesn't require internships etc., I know too many people that end up learning that meme stuff

Same could be said for Medicine. How many people start out wanting to be doctors and end up with, "Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" and that's it.

Also, I challenge calling business as a pseduo-science. Marketing, Management, sure. But Econ and Finance is like psychics applied to money.

Accounting is more like a law degree, so I wouldn't consider it scientific.

Physics.

Boilerroom stock brokers are like psychics applied to money.

>> No.1779963

>>1779954
True, that's what I meant. Management and Marketing are memes. Quantfin maybe not, but how many people are studying that compared to marketing?
Medicine however, is not, at least IMO. Plus, most med school require internships, experience etc., so it isn't becoming a meme and solely a "social status-degree" like business

>> No.1779975

>>1779963
Fair enough. Marketing and management (and low level business admin) degrees are a joke for people that just want to say they finished something.

Accounting, Econ, Finance degreescan be paired with interships as a stepping stone to very lucrative jobs in the business world.

Shoot. This isn't as fun if we agree. Fuck your mother.

depends on the country.
In some countries, you rather go with management.
Doesn't change the fact that it's a pseudo-science.

The masters/PhD meme is about to crash like the hindenberg.

I'm doing a masters in information systems at a pretty good school. I basically applied because I can do it full-time while still working in a related field. Where I work you also need a masters (any masters) to move up so the main thing I lose is time, which you should be willing to give up.

Maths, honestly. I'm on a STEM jobs mailing list and loads of hedgefunds keep emailing me about jobs "Ph.D. in Maths/ highly mathematical science required"
