There's a good stiff sell off every few years and a crash around every 10-15 years. Anyway you can go long once this reverses and that'll be an even better money making opportunity as post crash bull runs last years usually.

Also, at least be conforted in the knowledge that even if you WERE doing options, the percentage actually making good money out of them isnt that high, have in mind that every time someone makes money from options and actually realises their gains, its because they sold at peak to some other autist who then lost a bunch of money, who then panic sold to another autist who also lost a lot and so on. Options is an adult game of hot potato, and I can guarantee that for every person posting good gains out of them, theres many more who lost a bunch.

Its not worth doing if you dont know what the fuck you're doing and since you dont, its not like you missed out on anything. Its like thinking you missed out from a 50 million dollar NFL contract just because you didnt know how to play football.

What do you do with that feeling of missing out? Learn how to do that shit, always have some liquidity on you (ie dont blow your savings on random bullshit or you wont have any money to get in on next run) and be prepared for the next time it happens and maybe you'll be at a good place for it.

You guys realize this is the cheapest gas will ever be right? We are at thr absolute bottom of gas prices.

Airlines and CHINA are out.

The US is the number one producer and just lost some of their biggest customers and US reserves are and have been full.

Gas is literally 1.75 here in south Texas (working oil field atm), now you anons get ur moment when you tell ur grandkids "heh back in my day gas was 1.75!"

It cant go lower, all you blue states with ur gas taxes at 50+ cents, this is as low as it wil ever be. So you are gonna buy the oil companies during this recession right? Why wouldnt you, its literally free, this is the bottom for these companies, remember that stock price does not reflect company value, and even of the stock price dips lower, the value of these companies cannot get lower, its not possible.

The value of a put doesn't go up the same amount as the underlying security goes down. The two are correlated, but the value of the put goes higher in proportion to how close the decrease brings the security to the strike price of the put.

So if you buy puts with a 150 strike price on a security currently at 200 dollars, and it actually drops to 150, you might stand to make 30x what you paid for the put depending on volatility and other extenuating factors.

Also, options represent "the right" to 100 shares of the underlying. They don't just represent one. This was actually the first thing which cleared up my own confusion about them. I too didn't understand how people could make such retardedly insane gains on options until I learned this.

Basically, if you own a put at expiration, and it's for a strike price 10 bucks above what the security is now at, because it continued dropping, you get 1000 bucks. Because you can buy 100 shares at 10 bucks lower, and then sell them all for 10 bucks higher.

Most of the people under 50 will have it, and have nothing worse than mild flu or cold symptoms. This isn't the black plague, where testing positive is is guaranteed death.

But nursing homes are gonna lose a lot of paying customers. The boomer retirement problem might just solve itself. Cruel, but possible.

We're getting this, instead of a recession. I think I'd prefer a recession, but it's not like we can change course at this point.

The bull run when this is over, however? Pure, shining gold. The next decade will be profit all the way up.

I was basically where you were at like a month ago. And since then, I've made a few thousand on options, but it's easy to get sloppy and lose big on them.

Another thing to consider is that if you own the option, and its expiration date arrives, and it's not beyond its strike price (above for a call, below for a put), the options "expire worthless", meaning you get nothing. So you might end up putting down 1K because hey, 30K upside, benefit hugely outweighs the risks right? But you guessed wrong and that 30K you thought you had a chance of making was just a dream, and you just threw a thousand bucks away. So they're still risky. I'll give you a quick rundown
The price of an option is determined by both it's intrinsic value and its time value.
The intrinsic value of an option is the difference between the strike price and the current price (of an in-the-money option), its the amount of money you would get if you exercised it right now.
The other component is the time value, which is a measure of the probability that the option will become (more) profitable in the future. There are a lot of models to calculate this, but in general the time value is affected by volatility and time until expiration (as it becomes less likely that it will move a certain amount given some volatility within the smaller time window).

When you buy a far OTM put the most probable outcome is that it becomes worthless, and that fact is priced into the option itself, meaning its very cheap and has no intrinsic value.
When the market crashes and it goes ITM, you suddenly have that intrinsic value that wasn't part of the option before, in addition to the heightened volatility. This can easily increase the value of the option by 100's of %. So basically you can get a return of over 1000% if you got lucky enough. That's a lot.

I have family that works in the agriculture department of a university and allegedly the amount of nutrients in the top soil is depleting fast in the mid west because the local governments whore themselves out to Monsanto. The stuff Monsanto is pushing them to put in the soil while it increases yields at first drains the nutrients faster than if they grew normally.

It's absolutely an over-reaction, by Wall Street. Propped up by the exact opposite by the government to Corona. None of this would have happened if we'd quarantined all of China when it first broke. I'm not a Bernie bro or a Bidencuck, I was fine with Trumps golden bull run on the market, but his administration has a lot of explaining to do over this. They fucked us, hard. But it was coming anyway, the talking heads have been calling for a recession or meltdown for years now, and now it's here. And now they're all 'HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?"

All I'm think of now is, how long will the bear last, before recovery. I'm thinking mid Q3. I hope. Bears tend to be short, like recessions, and god knows this resets the recession clock.
Gonna be a rough fucking year. I won't lie, i was hoping we'd dodged a bullet, but nope, we took one right to the fucking face, and it's gonna be bloody.

And bear in mind that options prices are advertised as 1/100 of the price you'll actually pay for the contract, because they represent the price per share. And I mentioned that options contracts represent the right to buy/sell 100 shares.

But the Fed's mandate is to control inflation and ensure maximum employment, not pump money into the stock market. $1.5 trillion vanished in a matter of minutes. It literally benefited no one, and the markets will continue to crash tomorrow. Up until today I always thought liberals were retards for wanting their student debt paid off, but after watching this debacle from the Fed I am rather appalled. I studied economics in college and interned at the Fed, so I am knowledgable in forming my opinion on this subject. That being said, the government is literally buying companies, which is basically socialism. Trump said America would never be a socialist country, but him and the Fed are full of it.

Because he has no idea what the fuck is going on, obviously, and for once he realises how far out of his depth he is. Finances is the ONE thing he's supposed to be good at so not knowing what is happening makes him stay quiet on it because if people find out he doesnt know shit (and most of the world isnt sure whats gonna happen, not putting donnie down on this one) then even more chaos will ensue.

tldr hes realised every time he speaks stocks go down so hes staying quiet for a bit

Wat? Worst case would be the market tanking without a global pandemic hanging over everyone's head.

It's the worst case scenario because his big mouth accelerated it. Today wouldn't have been so bad if he had announced a bigger push test kits/respirators instead of jumping straight to an EU travel ban yet not declaring a national emergency because Kushner is researching the virus. If there was no pandemic he would take the blame but his response to the pandemic will cause people to blame him for both the recession and the failure at test kit productions. He gave the media so much ammunition to use against him in the last 7 days it's unbelievable

Free adblocker app blocks YouTube ads and lets you play audio thru the app on YouTube without a paid YouTube account.

I.e use the adblocker to search YouTube then put on a playlist, no interruptions for free. I use it for audio books and podcast s it's awesome.

Many people don't know of it so I talk about it every chance I get since it was such a game changer for me personally

Exactly, the fact that he spent his day retweeting the CDC and doctors is proof that Pence or someone told him to just shut the fuck up
