500 isn't too little but as a noob I wouldn't recommend picking a specific stock that you know nothing about and instead to an ETF for a sector you think is going to do well.
I get that you think tons of people are going to die and therefore morticians are going to do well but that's not necessarily the case because the laws that govern corpse disposal, plus that many of the dead will also be from the poorest class of people (who are more likely to be cremated by the state after sitting in the morgue for years) and who will be cremated by the state in an emergency, also funeral homes are an extra weird business in that they're functionally a monopoly owned by Service Corporation International (stock symbol SCI) but also a franchise.

If you didn't know any of that, or even understood what I just said, then you should probably spend a while on Investopedia while parking your money in SPY or QQQ or a nice dividend stock

Yet. This is where the winners (people shorting) and the losers (bulls) differ. The bulls are seeing this as just a dip because everything's not so bad right now. The bears are looking a month into the future and seeing what will happen when a full quarantine is imposed in NYC because there are 100,000+ infected, health systems are overwhelmed, and the National Guard is mobilized.

Your stocks will not increase in value in such a situation. I repeat. Your stocks will NOT increase in value in the situation that is coming.

There are stateside traded ETFs tracking them, and a lot of big international companies with no US listing do have a US OTC listing you can buy. OTC has low liquidity so be a little extra careful if you go that route. And some brokers do allow you to buy international stocks directly but watch out for forex fees in that case.

I dont understand why any of you are panicking or worried

This is literally the greatest thing to ever happen in your life to make it and stop being poor. It took 12 years from the GFC to reach another crisis, and it will take another 12 years to reach another one. And the other thing is that unlike during the GFC, interest rates are rock bottom, which means all the people cashing out now have no choice but to put it back into markets. Inflation is low, so gold wont rise much, term deposits give you nothing, bonds give nothing, property is good as always but good luck getting into it. This "crisis" will be short lived, in that the market will start its recover soon. From the bottom of the GFC to the point it recovered was only 4 years. You only have maybe a few months to make as much money as you can right now to buy, then less than 4 years to buy up before the market reaches back to normal levels.

Save every penny you can get your hands on and invest it in SP500/ASX300/Whatever your domestic index is, set dividend reinvesting, and compound that monster.

That because americans already have the US dollar so we put our money in stocks.
Third world macacos just put their savings in foreign currency whenever we want to save and usually that gives us a better yield than most stocks. Thats why you see most people around you have their savings in euros or USD.

US Schools don't teach shit about personal finance. From my understanding most Americans just learn about it because of the many resources and seeing people constantly talk about the stock market so they become interested in it.

Truth be told it's just another form of gambling I would argue for the average American unless you're part of the ones that do passive investing and would rather their money make more returns than just leaving it in their savings accounts.

True. Leafland is same. The only courses that touched on it was a thing called 'career and life management' in highschool which covered things like making a budget and how to pay your taxes. In uni I took a course about how to manage a home business as a graphic designer/illustrator but that was also mainly about tax in so far as finances were concerned. I would have had to take some kind of stock market related course from the business faculty as an elective if I wanted to learn about investing/trading (I didn't at the time).

Yes, and their retirement accounts. I would say less than 5% of the population has a brokerage account and actually buys stocks through it.

This is honestly a great lesson for the US. This is our only chance to revitalize domestic manufacturing, make proper preparations for any disasters, boat loads of over issues we can easily solve by not being retarded. But that's just the problem dude. Poor people are retarded and rich people are greedy, and that combines into a shitstorm of incompetence.
