We have similar a system in Finland. I think you still get fined if you get caught stealing stuff that's worth under 500€, but if you don't pay, you won't get jail like you used to. And don't even think about trying to catch the thief by yourself, if you don't want to get fined. I think we're switching back to the olden ways in a year or so, although even back then only cops and security people could apprehend the thief. The cases went up after switching to current system, but if I remember correctly it's mainly teens/narcs/hobos stealing beer/food/etc.

I can’t believe any of this anymore. I feel crazy. This sensation of disbelief at just how nonsensical and insane “progressive” people can be just keeps happening. No matter how low the bar seems to drop, it goes another notch lower and I never feel ready for it. It’s been really bad the last few years. What makes it so much worse is the world doesnt seem to react the way I expect they’re supposed to. The news, public figures, people around me in everyday life. Not a peep about how crazy any of this is. Like it’s swept under the rug and ignored or treated like it’s normal, and then I feel isolated like I’m the only sane person on earth. Like everything is falling apart around us and people are either helping tear it all down or ignoring it completely.
