US: only ~500 so far tested by the CDC; testing kits that were supposed to go around the country for faster and wider testing is delayed for ONE FUCKING MONTH.

America's CDC right now: "There are no cases in US if we don't test at all :)"

Also CDC: if you did not get tested for coronavirus and you die from the virus, we will still say the person did not die from coronavirus (because you were not tested).

Other countries: able to (and already did) test thousands every day.

Do you think every case of someone being infected is being tallied? People are catching this shit and getting nothing more than a sniffle not even realizing they have it. The flu is more dangerous and doesn't get this kind of attention. They just have a new buzzword and scare tactic to throw around to cause panic because they are up to something behind the scenes.

People need to understand one thing; this kind of pandemic, rehersed just 3 months before it became public in China, is something world governments have agreed to deal with global coordination. China is not fudging numbers to "save it's bussiness". China is doing it as a coordinated effort with "the west". We got some two months more time to prepare without public freaking out about what is now happening. China numbers are total shit and we are all already infected.

The corona virus scare is being used to cover a recession that's been in the making since 2017 when the quasi-QE started.

The repo markets and the shale markets are about to go off a cliff, as evidenced by banks refusing to lend to each other.

This is only the beginning, we're staring down the barrel of 72 trillion dollars in debt. the US printed 1.5 trillion in 2019 alone. we're at like 500% debt to GNP.

If by tomorrow afternoon the US government isn't able to magically rid the US of this virus, this will only deepen. especially given the purposefully late printing of news concerning developments in infections and exposure domestically.

Honestly? I think he had a fight with the fed and they've been trying to give him what's called a false backing. they (IMO) planned to bring the entire bubble down on his head in the run-up to the election. but either the corona thing ran it early or they got wind of it and are using this to reverse the course of the FED without making trump look like an absolute fucktop. My head has been awash with possibilities since like two months ago. wondering what they were going to do with this bubble.

not flat, red. the only way it goes flat is if they perform massive injections. and even then, each successive day is going to require more and more. they'll eventually be unable to collateralize their printing against the IMF repayment schedule we have currently.

This virus is not the cause of the market volatility, it's the scapegoat for it. This isn't even as deadly as the flu. this is a sad attempt to bring china's GDP to zero while giving trump an excuse to not look like a chungus for ballooning an already unhealthy economy. (even though it's not even his fault and is actually the FED's doings.)

It looks like the epidemic has already peaked in China, if the number of cases is finally trailing off.
The virus emerged in early December and has peaked by late February. So 3 months.
Don’t forget that China introduced very draconian quarantine measures. These seem to have been effective. Without quarantine of close to 1 billion people, we can expect the peak of the epidemic to take somewhat longer than three months.
The virus has only just started to take off in Italy, S. Korea, and Iran. So we have until April to see the peak in these countries - assuming that quarantine measures are as effective and draconian as China put in place.
In the U.K. and USA, if the virus becomes self sustaining (i.e. with human to human transmission) like it is in Italy, Iran and South Korea, we can expect to see the peak in May/June.

Personally I wouldn’t be worried until cases without any known link to outbreak hotspots start appearing in my own country. Once cases start to appear with no known connection to China, Italy, Iran etc. Then it means the virus is freely spreading in the population and is no longer contained.

I’m quite appalled that so many are like “well it only kills old and sick people so I don’t care!” - do you not care about your parents, your grandparents, aunts and uncles? Do none of you have friends who are athsmatic or from an older generation? I’m most concerned about my mum getting sick and dying, I’d rather that didn’t fucking happen.

Fair point, but as long as China underreports *consistently* then the trend line is still informative.

I think the most important thing to consider is that flu season is coming to an end, it’s very likely that the virus slows spread into the spring and summer.
If quarantine measures are lessened in the spring and summer, this could be a disaster. Next winter we could have another pandemic situation with MULTIPLE starting points. This time it was just Wuhan. If people are travelling around all spring, summer and autumn, and then next winter when flu season kicks off, the hotspots are all over the world, that would be the time to get very worried.

A: China is underreporting cases
Your rebuttal: People are at work.

Your response has no bearing on the argument unless you assume that the virus necessarily incapacitates everyone it infects, which I’m not saying. I’m merely saying that we cannot know the rate of infection nor the severity of the illness until we get data outside China.

There is literally no scenario where this virus does not become endemic in some regions, like with Ebola, swine flu, MERS, and sars. It’s inevitable and it’s not really a big deal, insofar as there are already infectious diseases which are endemic to various regions. There are cases of all of these each year - these should not concern you unless you plan on travelling to these locations.
The only thing that should be of concern to your own personal health and safety is the potential for a pandemic.
Once the pandemic has peaked and abated at a global scale, there will always be a few cases every year, in countries where people live in cramped conditions with poor hygiene like India.

Not at all. Why? China is allowing workers to go back in the Hubei province, which is quite large. Wuhan, the epicenter, is obviously not back at work. I see no reason why China can’t continue to underreport cases and allow workers to return to the factories—the two are not related unless you assume some doomsday scenario. Further, the downtrend (while also being attributed to China wanting the economy to recover) can easily be explained by a readjustment in how the cases are diagnosed, as I said earlier. Cases were growing exponentially until China decided to revert back to their previous method of testing (the same method that was widely criticized as being a insufficient gauge for actual infections).

Your argument that it would be ‘impossible’ to conceal an uptrend is based in your assumption that the virus’ progress is dependent on a few factories in Hubei—it’s an untenable and naive position that I can only imagine is rooted in your loose understanding of what an epidemic is. Your belief that an ‘epidemic’ either
1. Kills everyone immediately
or
2. Goes away
is not based on anything other than assumption. Workers in the gigantic province of Hubei (not Wuhan, with which I think you’re conflating it) returning to work does not necessitate a spike in cases—the returning of workers to some factories in that province does not prove that the virus is going away.
