Yes, spend a day trying to not be at risk of a virus like corona.

You need stored food thats weeks old. Because all the food at grocery stores is covered in potential virus. Even if you bought canned food it can have virus on it from workers or other customers.

If you think through it, it's incredible to try and stop something like this.

If people can't stop ramming cars into things on accident they aren't gonna isolate themselves from potential virus spread

It's game over.

Real talk ...

Everybody is going to get corona virus right? The majority of healthy people are going to recover, a large number of the very young and very old are going to have complications. These complications themselves are not particularly life threatening, but will require medical intervention up to and including assisted breathing. The sheer number of people will overwhelm normal medical facilities leading to higher than expected mortality in cases of corona as well as amongst what is currently 'routine' treatments. Soooo ...

Say 80% of the population catch it and 2% of those have complications and with access to regular treatment 0.1% of those would die ... This is 1,248,000,000 cases needing treatment and 1,248,000 dead worldwide.

But with lack of treatment maybe 10x that shit. 12,480,000 dead. This is absolutely minor. Like 56 days population growth. This is like 1 in every 625. Easy mode bro.

your numbers are based on stats from current mortality rate - which are almost 100% false. if this thing is contagious as hell, has no vaccine/drugs to aid the body in fighting it, and most people with compromised immune systems are dieing then fatality rates are much higher. and you can get re-infected in which case youre almost guaranteed to die.

My meme stonk portfolio where I do way too much day trading is up 60% in the last 4 months. I am however convinced I am slightly retarded and thus I keep my 'real' money in ETF's. I split them geographically to hedge my bets because they are long term buy and forget holds. I tend to buy more every 3 months or so and at the time I rebalance my percentages at the same time. I figure this is as close to buy low sell high as it gets with passive investing in ETF's. I'm up 9% over the same 4 months on that account. Every time I rebalance I buy 3-4 times as many japanese stonks as the american ones because my american portfolio is up 11% and my weeb shit is down almost 4%.

Why do I keep buying japanese stocks? It is like dead money that just drips down and week on week. Occasional pump where I'm up a few percent, meanwhile my american stocks are 22-23% up.

Just do some scholar search, tons, of papers, epidemiological data linking Alzheimer's with hsv1. The virus goes into neurons and hides basically. This is why I found sava interesting in the first place. They modify a protein in the cytoskeleton, and solve many problems with their single drug. As for the bacterium, there is p.gingivalis in your mouth, and again, lots of epidemiological data supporting the link between Alzheimer's and dental diseases. There's this company, crtx, they are going to trial in Alzheimer's with a gingipain inhibitor, which is an enzyme produced by gingivalis and is most responsible for it's virulence. So my idea is that herpes goes first, weakens the blood-brain barrier, then comes the bacterium. Also, herpes and the bacterium can help each other in other, more direct ways. It's easily shown in dental diseases, but the complete mechanisms are harder to see, since everything is hard to see when a virus is involved.

Brain infection may result in long-term neurological sequelae, but little is known about the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV in this organ. We previously showed that the brain was a major target organ for infection in mice that are transgenic for the SARS-CoV receptor (human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2). Herein, we use these mice to show that virus enters the brain primarily via the olfactory bulb, and infection results in rapid, transneuronal spread to connected areas of the brain. This extensive neuronal infection is the main cause of death because intracranial inoculation with low doses of virus results in a uniformly lethal disease even though little infection is detected in the lungs. Death of the animal likely results from dysfunction and/or death of infected neurons, especially those located in cardiorespiratory centers in the medulla. Remarkably, the virus induces minimal cellular infiltration in the brain. Our results show that neurons are a highly susceptible target for SARS-CoV and that only the absence of the host cell receptor prevents severe murine brain disease.

Thereare a few possibilities for curbing Mig’s possible role in causingbrain damage in SARS patients with central nervous system infection, according to lead author Jun Xu, PhD, of the Guangzhou Institute ofRespiratory Diseases and senior author Yong Jiang, PhD, of the KeyLaboratory of Functional Proteomics of Guangdong Province. “There mightbe some ways of controlling the release of Mig, such as specificinhibitors that interfere [with] the signaling pathways involved,” Dr.Jiang said. “Other approaches, such as neutralizing antibodies [and]specific binding peptides, could be tried to block brain damage inducedby Mig.”

Four to five percent of SARS patients treated at theGuangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases experienced central nervoussystem symptoms, said Dr. Xu; therefore, physicians need to be aware ofthe potential for brain infection when evaluating patients with thedisease. Immunosuppressive drugs should be administered carefully andon an individual basis, as they may allow amplification of the SARScoronavirus in the brain. “Superinfection” with other pathogens couldalso contribute to SARS’ harmful effects on the brain. “Physiciansshould pay more attention to the prevention of brain damage if [SARSpatients] are superinfected with other conditional pathogens,”according to Dr. Xu and Dr. Jiang.
