Yep. It's slow progression but girls are at least open to talking. Dining room groups do form and you have people you often hang out with. It's a bit like living in a tribe as people would have done in caveman days. I was in the white foreginer group, honestly only a couple of Japanese girls who spoke English were actively interested to talk at lunchtime. I could have had sex with a French girl, and possibly with the Japanese girl who had lived in Aus previously, if I was willing to put in lots of effort. However I was not, and at the time I preferred to be directionless and depressed. I did spend a lot of time in my room on computer, just like normal. There were sports teams I could have joined to be more social, but in the end, I was too insecure about my sporting abilities so never joined. The huge square onsen bath was a highlight though. Usually alone, but sometimes other dudes would politely join as well. Only slightly awkward. Everyone follows the rules. I only stayed 2 months, but it was good. Would do again, and be a bit more confident of what I am even doing in Japan next time. Maybe learning Jap in Sapporo.
