How do you get people to spend a crypto asset they HODL because they expect it to appreciate?

DAI and other stablecoins solve this issue by pegging you the US dollar. Maker mints Dai when a collateralized loan is taken using a coin on the ethereum network. Soon Maker will mint coins pegged to gold, real life assets, and possibly bitcoin itself.
