I don't use mind altering substances. I don't have cable. I use free Wifi. If I'm cold, I put a sweater on. I work out at home. I only eat meat every second day. I walk whenever possible. I drive a 1999 Honda Civic, and do my own maintenance. I tend to make or buy things second hand. When I do buy new, I make sure what I am getting is a high quality product that will last a long time with proper care. My hobbies are reading and drawing, which cost next to nothing.
Many of these things require a time investment, and so don't make financial sense if you would profit by spending to have that time freed up.

>> No.168586

What? You mean like the previous day or something?

>> No.168647

>>168597
I agree with this wholeheartedly. Prepare things not only ahead of time, but in large quantities. The economy of scale applies to your life. By preparing your week's meals in advance, you save yourself time in the long run, and take willpower out of the equation. When toilet paper is on sale, you can confidently buy many months worth (unless you're planning to quit pooping). You're saving yourself gas and time, and ensuring you're never in short supply. It may seem trite, but time is money, and it helps to shave off these simple inefficiencies.

>> No.168656

>>168595
Why?

>> No.168657

>>168647
The difference is, week-old toilet paper works just the same, but week-old food is a lot less appetizing. There's ways to get around that, but most of them involve cooking it again anyway.

>> No.168684

>>168657
Fair enough. I work 4 on 3 off, so on Sunday night I prepare meals for my work week, then make more stuff once the weekend comes.

>> No.168685

>>168657

Yes, the taste of leftovers is pretty bad. However, I don't waste fruit, milk, eggs. I buy cereals (like oats or flour) in large quantities if i get hungry to avoid going to the store and spending cash.

I cook my lunches and dinners ahead of time and place them in a freezer, and then for breakfast I usually have eggs and oats/pancakes.

My food budget is about 50 bucks a week, but that's because of the meats that I buy for protein for fitness goals. If i did not have that goal, I'm confident I could reduce my budget to sub $30 a week no problem.

Everyone should live in multi-generational homes with their families. The idea that people should dislike living together with their families - and, indeed, dislike their families in general - is, to briefly wax /pol/itical, a lie perpetuated by the Jewry of the construction industry. Living in a separate home from one's parents is of no benefit at all, provided that home is of adequate size, and if it's not, expanding should be a simple matter on a decent plot of land - and any family that stays together for more than a generation or two should be able to afford that in the country they work in.

Get some rice ready, and some meat. Then you can whip up tacos whenever you want, or just have the rice and meat on a plate. Have some veggies and fruit around. If you want to be a bit more fancy you can make a proper meat sauce, maybe with a pasta to put it on. Stews work well too, with your meat, veggies, and potatoes all together. You can leave that in a slow cooker while at work or whatever.
For all these, make sure to vary the veggies because those are a big part of where your nutrients come from. If you feel a craving for something, get it, because that's your body telling you it has a nutrient you need. (note: If your craving is ice cream or marshmallows or something, you could just be a fatass).

Just start with something easy. Sandwiches with cooked meats are a good place to start, cause you'll learn how to start to brown and cook some meats properly. Maybe move onto pastas from there cause they don't require much skill, and can last a single person like a good 3 days. Maybe move onto learning to cook chickens or roasts from there. You can use the roasts for sandwich's as well.

I just sorta cook whatever was on sale at the market and make it work. I cook pasta once a week and eat it for lunch the entire week.

Life is what you make it. I've tried living extravagantly and frugally. For me being frugal makes me happier at the end of the day.
I get more pleasure out of generally saving money and spending it where it counts rather than spending money relentlessly on things that seem more fleeting or material. Saving money makes me less stressed and allows me to focus on being content in each moment that I live my life. Each bit of money saved means I am one step closer to having the ability to up and leave my current location, or perhaps I'm just a bit closer to one day starting a business. In the event of an emergency having more capital at your command means it will undoubtedly have a smaller impact on you.

In the end having the option to do what you wish may be more important than actually doing anything at all. In life, you can either follow your passion or you can bring it with you.

Don't spend money on random shit (no matter how cool you might think it is)

Take advantage of free media/entertainment

Keep shopping trips to a minimum if you drive; fewer shopping trips = less miles driven = less gas used over time and overall less wear-and-tear over time

Don't do car repairs at dealerships

Always check for sales on essential items you regularly buy, and take advantage of said sales whenever they happen; combine this with keeping shopping trips to a minimum (if driving) and check for sales on said essentials, and buy if there is a sale whether you need the essentials just yet or not

Don't buy name brand anything unless the name brand quality is noticeably and essentially better than generic (for example, if buying the name brand item lasts longer than the generic and therefore the additional initial cost actually saves you money)

Don't be afraid to poop at work (although take care with wiping if the toilet paper is shit, which it most likely will be at any workplace)

If you don't need food variety, develop a consistent, healthy, cheap diet consisting of items you can eat almost everyday without getting sick of eating them

Don't eat out

This

I can't remember how many times i've been in significant financial stress, look back at those 2 or three pizza purchases in one month or all those times buying from a fast food place, and thinking to myself, "Sure would be nice to have that 20 (or so) dollars right now".

Being financially stable means not having to worry about not having a place to live/something to eat/means to get around, something a lot of people miss.

My fuckin nigga.

Same thing here, but I don't have a car.

It puzzles everyone, and causes them mental distress when I say 'I don't drive'.
>don't your legs get tired?
>arent' you afraid you'll get hit?
>don't you get cold/hot/wet/freezing outside?
Its like their mind can't process the thought of someone walking further than to a mailbox or some shit.

I'm just too fucking cheap and lazy to get a car.
I live in bumfuckingnowhere, where everything is within a 2-3 mile walking distance, and cheap as hell.
Also I live by myself. No roommate, boyfriend, or family to fuck with my finances.

All my disposable income goes towards keeping myself neck deep in computer shit and vidya.
If I want something, I just save up for it and get it.
If I want to travel, ...I just save up for it and go.
((Last year I got a ride to the airport and flew to Shitcago, just to eat some shitty hot dogs and cheesesteaks and bullshit with a friend. Next year i'm planning on going to Puerto Rico, or some other warm place down south))

Life is good, amigos.

Anyway, I have no interest in driving either. Being in southern California, I can just bike most places. Also, it rarely rains which is really nice. (I like the rain, but not when I have to bike somewhere.)
My dad constantly nags at me to get my license and drive because I'm in college, but he's also reminding me of the costs. I intend to get the license regardless, but why the fuck should I get a car and drive right now if I don't want the expenses? Then again, I shouldn't be surprised that he's shit with financial (or any) advice. He lives alone and currently has financial issues. He:
>pays for a 2-bedroom apartment when my brothers and I very rarely stay the night
>has a car
>has a diesel truck
>has a trailer
>has several motorcycles and quads
