How much of "becoming wealthy" is totally beyond control? Let's say a child, 8 years old, decides his only goal in life is to become as wealthy as possible.
While there are obviously things he can do, like choosing to work in a relevant field, or move to a certain city; how much actual control would he have over his end goal?

I'll concede that the average person could probably earn several hundred thousand dollars a year if they legitimately did everything in their power to do so. Much beyond that though, I'd figure is largely a result of happenstance, or is so hard to accurately predict that it might as well be.

Most of wealth is pure chance.
Imagine going on biz and buying crypto in mid2015, then holding to 2017, congrats you made it.
Does this make you a smart investor? no, you were just lucky the cryptomania for normies happened.
Now imagine going to biz mid2017, then buying crypto and holding til now, you probably didnt make any gains. Does this make you a bad investor? No, you are just unlucky because the cryptomania for normies happened and now nobody touches crypto. (of course you could have made a smart decision and buy chainlink like me, this is why i say "most is pure chance, but not all")

The worst part is when the first scenario happens and the person thinks they are some financial genius and then start writing books on their success or giving ted talks on how you can be like them if you just followed in their footsteps 'hard work and determination pays off'
It's such bullshit and yet I see it all the time, not just crypto but any business that is successful the CEO thinks that their behaviour is the secret to success when in actual fact deep down they probably have no idea what the fuck they are doing

also our life gets shaped by our physical health, which shapes our psychological well being (seneca believed a healthy mind can only live in a healthy body).
in my early 20s i developed 2 illnesses which are both genetic, but none of my relatives had these illnesses.
if i knew i would get these illnesses i would have made different decisions (start working, directly after school, instead of wasting my healthy years at university)
its just pure chance that fucked me over. healthy people will never realize this. in general i am completely detached from healthy peoples way of thinking, i realized that their pursuits and their way of reasoning are so utterly flawed, that i can only relate to some people with chronical illnesses, but never to people without health issues who care about the most extraneous things

True. There is a documentary about a german instagram influencer who got rich by some pyramide scheme (because he was lucky to be early of course).
He now wants to sell collars and bracelets and asked what his business aim is for the next years he said he wants to be a billionaire in the next 3 years by selling this stuff, topkek. these people are walking cases of dunning-kruger
