Travelling is fucking great, especially if you go to weird places. Just getting a bus in some countries is an adventure. Don't bother with those "help the starvin' effeopans" programs, they're fake. Instead either just accept you're a tourist and enjoy the fact.
Honestly you tend to make friends with the other travellers, you can rarely integrate into the local culture unless it's quite close.
The middle class are different, the middle class tend to be pretty similar everywhere. If you see a dude reading a highbrow paper, you'll likely get on with him.
There is always a feeling that "gap year" sorts are running away from something, I buy that. Have a plan to come back.
>Pol shit
Travelling both cures your racism and makes it worse at the same time. You realise that people are basically the same on a bio level, that differences in "races" are insignificant compared to the variation in individuals. You learn to love all people regardless of colour, race, bla bla bla dancing round with flowers in your hair.
You also learn that culture is where the meat of differences are, some cultures are weird and quite unsettling, some cultures are just stronger than others. But you've gotta accept that if you'd been born into X culture, you'd have turned out exactly the same way.
The Chinese are just odd

There is nothing inherently good about old things. In fact old religions are products of their time and contain many points that don't hold ground today.

The modern world and how to navigate it is far different from how it was 1000 years ago, and we need modern culture/religion to accommodate for that.

Did you know that the very early human skeletons found in Ethiopia tend to have larger brain cavities than the city dwellers who settled the fertile Cresent circa 6000bce onwards. While it's likely that this is a result of poorer diets (grains etc) it's been argued that city dwellers may have evolved smaller brains than hunter gatherers to preserve calories. One interpretation of this is that "races" who stayed hunter gatherers for longer might have higher natural IQs, better memories, that would make say your Bantu peoples potentially sharper than westerners.

Anyway, there actually are new iterations of the main religions in the works by spiritual leaders. It's more like an updated version of each religion, so no one has to unite under the same one necessarily. The updated versions would focus more on the shared themes rather than the differences between religious tribes. But it would build on what came before, since many people are attached to old traditions.

They won't be morphed into one. The common themes would be emphasized while the arbitrary themes based on the necessities of life thousands of years ago would be deemphasized.

The concepts of an infinite, all-knowing God is one theme that is shared among all religions.
Same with nonduality.

The problem with religions is that many of them rely on cryptic fables which are open to misinterpretation. This leads to people cherrypicking or taking the teachings out of context in order to harm other people.

On topic, travel is interesting and educational and eye-opening but it also depends on how you travel. If you are staying short term this can be hard but at least you can see the historical sites and how other people live. If you just go to tourist traps and gift shops and urban metropolises you might not learn much. If you don't learn the language and only hang out with expats you might not learn much. Just going there is the first step, but if you really want to know what life is like there you have to take the initiative to learn the language, meet natives, etc.

tl;dr it can be interesting and eye-opening but you have to go outside the homogenous tourist trap stuff

>All of them are pointing to the same God
no they fucking arent and just goes to show how little you know about religion. You think they're just disagreements on the 'little details' and that they all have the same underlying message. Completely wrong and retarded new age thinking
> if the world was to unite, it would make it far harder for an elite to rule over them. A world government means a world army.
you clearly dont see where this is heading..

>those are the parts that don't really matter. What matters is how you relate to other people, and integration of meditative/contemplative practices alongside religious wisdom
Lay follower detected. Religion and spirituality have more to them than codes of social conduct. Reducing them to that reduces them to nothing at all.

The problem is exactly what I mentioned earlier. You're taking religious fables literally. They are not meant to be literal, they are symbolic. Noah's Ark didn't actually happen.

There are fundamentally different worldviews that find themselves expressed in the different religions. Your ignorance of this is striking.

no shit they're symbolic, they're still not talking about the same stuff. There IS a common theme among non abrahamic religions, but since more than 50% of the world belongs to abrahamic religions, then no conciliation is possible
>Enlighten me.
you think something as world govt just becomes a reality naturally? its a long agenda being implemented slowly by very ruthless people, its why the UN was founded. They dont have your best interest in mind and they plan to rule the world with an iron fist, world army would suit them fine for their purposes.
You think your fantasy is new? they've been wanting that shit for millenia

its what the dude wants, to reduce them to codes of conducts and nothing else. Its what the elite want as well (except for their sacred judaism)
