"tokenomics" matter in the sense that it matters who is holding the tokens and what might happen to them. When the team holds a large % of the supply, it's generally a sign that you're going to get dumped on like fuck.

Tokenomics in the sense of "actual use driving the price up" is of less importance since most of the value is due to speculation, the same as precious metals. But it still carries a lot of weight in giving speculators confidence and attracting that investment.
