Why did the number of Tor nodes increase crazily last week?
From >200 to 2087. What does it mean, biz?

must be related to the huge increase in hash power. last week hash power jumped from ~95 to ~130.
one of the main the stories of 2020 will be that usa eclipses china as largest miner.
good opsec to anonymize the exact connection points of those new mining rigs

Ironically a very strong argument for small blocks

Interesting, you only need 40% mining power for an Eclipse attack.

Why are you so sure it will happen in 2020 though? I know we have the farm coming up in texas but where else? Is it because of the halving + limitations being reached on asics?

Of course that's one of the first things that jumps to mind, but could you explain it? According to this chart onion (as opposed to ipv4 and ipv6) nodes exploded on the 3rd. What party would have such a huge interest in suddenly running anonymous tor bitnodes, while simultaneously not being paranoid or coordinated enough to avoid creating such a spike, which would arouse many people's suspicion. Therefore we might say... it possibly wasn't US intelligence agencies... such activity would give them away.

The only argument for small blocks is to decrease the orphan rate so as not to waste hash, and that has nothing to do with the hashpower distribution (unless you're talking about bandwidth concerns which are pretty minimal with 10m block times)

Of course, not! It was our one and the holy savior, Craig Satoshi Wright himself!

I've might have heard washington state as well for a new US mining company
blockstream built a huge mining warehouse as well

Yeah somewhat right
moore's law is the processor wafer size and it doubles every couple years
early in bitcoin mining we weren't even close to the current wafer technology, but now it's approaching our limitations
so now instead of new mining hardware on the market every 3 months it's going to be every 2-4 years or so depending on breakthroughs
this allows for more companies to compete
because the profitability factor isn't just limited to the location of the wafer factories
you now consider energy costs, cooling efficiencies, and I'm sure a lot of other things to compete in mining

the number 200 was incorrect, admin of bitnodes.earncom just fixed something that started reporting the number correctly (2000)
