This is much more sensible.

Trying to call the top because “it can’t keep going up, it’s gone so much up” hasn’t been a very unprofitable move for almost all of 2019.

The market needs to digest its gains, but that doesn’t mean we need a “correction”. A 21% gain over 2 years is great, but it’s not unreasonable.

Please, let’s consider that everyone who is measuring YTD is seeing an exaggerated move due to the Powell selloff.

I’d expect some churn from large caps to small and mid caps, but there’s no real reason to start calling for a top. It certainly doesn’t look like the big boys are preparing to crash the market.

GALT is a biotech company, so in the instance of that company, I liked their science and the backing from the billionaire COB (Richard Uihlein)
You probably shouldn't mess with biotech companies (especially small ones) when you're just starting out, though, they're risky and extremely volatile, with the potential for you to be holding at a loss for extended periods of time before things go your way

I would recommend reading the books in the OP list, starting out with a small amount of money to minimize the impact of your early mistakes, and learning from experience

Yeah, I'm not really arguing against it. But I don't think we will see any major moves to the downside until after the deal is signed, that's probably when the markets will calm down for a while which might lead to a retracement (which I hope is a decently large one).

They’ve admitted that they were totally wrong with that whole laffer curve, and that employment doesn’t seem to have a big effect on inflation anymore. Interesting times.

Very interesting work on demographics shows that millennials are about the age boomers were before the period of massive economic prosperity they experienced. What I learned about 2019 is that it's all about liquidity. The Fed CAN move markets, but they can't counteract policy developments if that is seen as a negative.

The market is held captive to the Fed's actions on interest rates/REPO and the developments on the US-China trade deal. Macro does come into play eventually, but macro will hold up if lending holds up.

2020 will be interesting to see if the US-China actually sign their "deal" and when/if they stop the Repo interventions.

Yes. You and many others have said it before and will say it again. Dalio and however many others were saying we’re gonna crash at the beginning of 2019. People have been saying a recession is around the corner for about 10 years now.

I don’t see the dot com bubble or subprime lending bubble you do. The selloff in cloud companies and eventual end to the massive short squeeze that was beyond meat are good signs that the market doesn’t want to go crazy.

People, especially millennials, were really scarred by the financial crisis. There just isn’t the same tendency to borrow massive amounts of money and live way beyond your means there once was.

The median age of homebuyer is 47, and the median age of first time homebuyers is 33. These aren’t people who are crazy overleveraged, or massive amounts of speculative home flippers.

Yeah, I'd argue it's the most anticipated recession in history. Still doesn't make those fears invalid, but that liquidity is just going to push valuations higher: until they don't.

If the Fed starts to think they've engineered a soft landing, they are going to start throwing out media thought bubbles on stopping the REPO intervention. If they successfully do that, then they'll start chattering about possible rate hikes.

I've been listening to stuff recently and it kind of sounds like the 2008 housing market was prevented from having a proper correction. Pic related. Things like bad mortgages were rolled over with the interest moved over to principal and are redefaulting, and there are tons of people that just aren't being foreclosed on even though they are in default. I'm assuming that if they actually were foreclosed on the housing price would actually crater to an affordable level but who knows.

This is what i checked today for example. It addresses the issues of recent trials and reviews the role of pathogens in AD, especially herpes. Lots if very useful references.
The sava drug targets a modified conformation of a harmless structural protein in the cell body: filaminA. What can modify filamin A in particularly elusive ways? A virus! Why does it do it in an evolutionary viewpoint? Amyloid beta actually can bind the virus and remove it. The modified filaminA makes lots of receptors able to bind amyloid beta forever (and induce a toxic cascade and kill the cell eventually which is the main problem of the disease). But this way the virus got some of its enemies and boosted its survival. It had millions of years to evolve like this. It all fits, it's just beautiful.
I don't get though why haven't the sava authors addressed the virus thing in their paper. You should also read those as well. So no secret docs, just read as much papers as you can.

But saying "going at it alone" and turning down several large Green Bags when they are put in front of you is two very different things. Also it don't mater what he wants. If the board members vote for it and shareholders sign off on it then a buyout is a done deal. Going at it alone involves a partnership deal. That has not happened yet. You would think that such a deal would be locked in place before the FDA final ruling came down so that right afterword they could start mass production of the drug. That has not happened. In fact nothing has happened other than more sales reps being hired. (Which in a buyout deal they could be fired rather quickly cause these are like your modern temp workers;low on the hiring pole)

Once the litigation overhang is dealt with then the buyout or whatever will be done. Cause if your the buyer why would you want to get in the middle of a legal dispute if you didn't have to? You wouldn't. You'd wait till it was over with then make your move. Which happens in Jan. This case involves generic companies stealing AMRN's drug (aka Profit). Small fry companies at that. to answer your question, putting 50% of you stack into any stock is pretty suspect. Even if you find a stock that you LOVE, something amazing, you should be going in max 10% of your whole stack.

Even in my robinhood "for fun" account I don't have any position over 10% of the total allocation.

that's just nerd shit though
I usually advocate primal investing, where you try and use non-quantitative means as much as possible. you should *feel* like having 50% of your stack in a single stock is wierd and not good. you don't have to set any rule for max allocation, but 50% in a single stock isn't OK

Why are you anons wasting opportunity on outsize risk when the comfy, safety, and fat gains are all in SOXL? Face it, semiconductors are crack in all but name. Computers, GPUs, self-driving electric cars, AI enhanced smartphones, medical devices, microcontrollers, networking gear, machine learning, surveillance, infrastructure, it's endless. It doesn't matter how many there are, how fast they are, or how efficient, the demand is for more, bigger, better, faster. What delights the most on Christmas day? A semiconducter blinken the lights.

It sucks because that channel is designed to aggravate people. That’s the way they get so many viewers- by enraging them with the next Trump thing.

People steer the media as much as the media steers the people. But let’s not get doom and gloom about it, shit always seems like its scary and getting worse, even when it’s not.

Watch the gold USD/oz. prices to get a better feel for the way the miners may move. If miners go down a bit (on no bad news) with the price of gold remaining steady, that's buy time. Assuming of course that you don't think gold's steadiness is about to break downwards.

And a well run mining company could preform better than just rocks sitting in a box (paper gold). Will keep an eye out.

I’d previously thought the reduction in trade uncertainty might slow the rush into gold, but on the other hand, people are really stressed out when the bull charges this hard, and there’s no telling if repo is really solved yet. I’ve gotta look more into that.

I use degiro. It is ... ok.
It isn't regulated for more than 20k of losses so I'd be wary of holding more than that in it. It also has low cash flow/cash assets in case of a run.
I don't know how much you are fucking with, but I'd recommend holding a lot of your portfolio in a vanguard ISA split between stocks and bonds depending on your risk tolerance and using degiro for your fuck around meme trading so 20k should be plenty starting out. Vanguard is cheap as to be free and tax free wrapped in an ISA.

Firstly degiro has fees. You get a reduced rate for your 'home' market and currency as well as free live market feed, but for UK stonks you can expect to pay £1.75 a trade + tax for big stocks on major exchanges. The tax sucks, but it is compulsory on the big indexes, shit like the AIM index is exempt.

The american market which I suspect you are interested in are very low, like 25c/trade min + 0.001% per stock. The feed is 15m delayed unless you want to pay 7.50 euro a year per exchange for live access. Every exchange outside of your home country you trade on will cost you 2.50 euro a year payable in advance one month after you first trade on it.

Deposits take about 1-3 days to clear. Usually a weekend deposit will clear monday. Monday wednesday and wednesday the following monday from experience.

Leverage is basically 1:1 if you enable it, there is no account minimum as far as I can tell to do so and you must enable margin to trade options and puts. CFD's can't be held on the same account as other stuff. Uncovered puts can't be placed on cat D assets.

It is not good for scalping as it won't let you trade units smaller than 0.01 of a penny. It will however not jew you too badly if you place market or limit orders close to the fraction. It also won't let you hold more than 2 orders on a stock at the same time which makes some strategies quite involved compared to a more automated broker.

>> No.16640098

>>16640081
Also you have to start thinking about your reasons for holding certain stuff because their tax system is a nightmare for dividends and they aren't going to be as lucrative as you think. They basically withhold tax on dividends at the rate of the issuing country at the point of paying it and then if you want that money back you are on your own. I *think* I can reclaim it from HMRC when doing my end of year tax returns depending on the country and if the UK has a double taxation treaty in place, but good luck because I've no faith in degiro after speaking to them on the phone that they are even paying the withheld tax to the country of origin. They are SUPER fucking weird about talking about it too.

.............you mean a $59.4M contract. With options that may or may not be exercised for up to 284M. Over 5 years. On a company that burns through 100M a year.

I use share.com. Fixed monthly fees works out cheap for my 100k portfolio vs HL's % based fees. Can't remember trading fees but I'm a long term holder so doesn't matter. There is a frequent trader option that gives you cheaper dealing fees for a fixed monthly fee.

dividends can be a retard trap, sometimes a dividend will be high because the stock is in the shitter. I look at the company's fundamentals, and for a record of consistent (and rising) dividends.

It's real easy to beat yourself up for selling a rising stock. But that stock could have gone down too. Like another anon said, just have a plan and keep mechanically following it and de-risking by rebalancing your portfolio.
