So that leaves 15,600 left. I'm torn on this next part. Tempted to put 5,000 into my TSMF and 5,000 into my S&P 500 fund with 3,420 going into 90 more T shares. 1200 into my SWISX fund. when you get that message it means that there are no other orders that RH can see for that specific strike price and expiry.
That doesn't necessarily mean your order won't fill. But you should be careful, especially as a beginner, placing orders in sparse parts of the book.
If you want to get started with options, consider something with higher volume (monthly SPY calls near the money, or something like F if you can't afford SPY).
There may also be AMRN calls with more realistic strikes and expiry that have some open orders in the books. Still, you have a risk of paying a much larger premium then you should if the spread is large.

If you dont have the money to buy the 100 shares at the strike price, Robinhood wont execute even if the call is in the money, so you'd want to sell back the call before its expiry

lots of the easiest, complete tools are going to have a paywall of some sort
if you want long-term growth in high-cap stocks, you can check the NOBL constituents

one of the main problems is you have to quantify how you are judging dividend growth: how much a company has grown dividends by annualized over the last 5 years? or do you take into account increasing dividend acceleration? do you ignore stocks that have just initiated dividends?

basically it isn't a short easy question to answer, despite how easy it seems. divdend.com can give you a guide based on their research (if you pay them). But the most important thing to look for, as always is EARNINGS growth. I'd usually rather have a company that grows earnings but not dividends over a company grows div but not earnings.
hope it makes sense

You can use an indicator like the ATR (average true range) to do the calculation automatically. ATR has a curvy line but you mainly just need the number. High ATR number = high volatility over the number of periods you've set it to measure. Low number low volatility. If you want to be very specific about your position sizes, you can make a formula to tell you how many dollars or what percentage of your portfolio to dedicate to the trade relative to the ATR number, if you want. I'm not that fussy about it. My entry amounts fall in to three categories; big, medium, or small.

I was trying to ask how your part of the trading is organized
so it's a small team style?
You said you're a trader, so I assume that you (or a small team) actually opening and closing positions

you trade stock index volatility or do you trade segment/stock volatility? Or volatility on non-equity assets?
All your positions are mostly options-constructed?
What is the most complex options position that you've ever entered (number of unique strikes/expiry dates/etc. in the position)?

most of what i do is in index options. Most complicated is probably constructing forward volatility / variance trades. Involves at least 2 expiries and like 20 strikes for both SPX and VIX.

I guess that's not that crazy.
I don't really mess with options because I don't put much time into trading, I mostly just invest.
But I've always had a thing for extremely complex/exotic options positions. I mean NUTTY stuff, discontinuous combinations of expiries and strikes across different asset classes that don't even make sense.
Know what I mean

>>16562285
If a company's dividend is really high (compared to their current share price, indicated by a high yield %), that means they probably CANNOT afford to pay it in the long term.
Best thing to do is look at dividend history, stock price history, and earnings history.
If you look at those three things and something still seems off, it probably is. As always, the answer is more research. But there are lots of stocks that you might just glance at the fundamentals and already know that they aren't worth your time to research.

How high will AMRN go on Monday, next week, next month? And what does the buy give us?

>> No.16564730

>>16564623
>And what does the buy give us?
If you hold stock in a company bought out by another, the buying company will typically pay a premium above recent average market value over a particular period. Some times this is a little, sometimes a lot. If buyout is agreed on, a news release will be made detailing the transaction, the date of close, and the premium paid. Most of the time this means you will receive shares in the purchasing company (if it's also publicly traded) in exchange for your shares according to the buyout agreement news release.

This can sometimes create arbitrage opportunities in the interim between the transaction announcement and the date of close, which can be months. For instance, in the dude weed sector, Cresco Labs made an agreement to buy out Origin House. The terms of the agreement detailed that 1 share of Origin House would be equal to 0.7031 shares of Cresco Labs. The two stocks will trade more or less in tandem keeping fairly close to the ratio between the two. Sometimes, however, things get out of wack and the market creates greater discounts than the buyout deal itself. For example, if Origin House stock went down somewhat meanwhile Cresco stayed flat-ish, it would make sense to load up on Origin House shares with the thinking that the stock will tend back towards the buyout ratio. This actually happened briefly in November and I missed it.

Probably whatever they force us to sell for in the buyout.. If it's not bought out in the next two months I'll re-consider

>> No.16566427

I'd guess the buyout price for AMRN would be 50 per. That is slightly under half of the current stock price (27 x 2). The high side that annalist had pegged AMRN for was 50 per. The average was 30. From a bean counter point it makes far better sense to buy AMRN now while they are still cheap and before they can get the ball rolling with the drug. The longer Big Pharma waits, the more it will cost them, cause that stock price is going up throughout 2020. So in the end you lose nothing by waiting.

Uh huh, lets see normally I'm not an asshole but this time let me kinda break it down. Most people are up to there asses in debt, credit card, student loans, etc. Not me. My only debt is my house. Most people have to work till they are 65 (or depending on affairs longer). Not me. I can "retire" at age 50. Most people have kids or have "kiddie payments" or have been cleaned out in a divorce (or two) by the time they're 36. Not me. Married just once and oh hey she's younger to boot and we both don't want kids (like them fine, but don't want any ourselves). Most people are damn lucky to have just 10 dollars left after bills, etc. Me? Well right now I'm sitting on around 50k split between investments, cash, etc. Most people have to deal with bullshit, stress, and paperwork and also the fear of one day getting a "pink slip" at work. Me? None of that bullshit applies. Most people pay out the ass on the mortgage/rent on the house/apt. Me? I just pay $400 for a 3 bed house w/garage,basement, and nice rear yard. Most people have car payments. Me? Both mine and the wife's car is paid off. They ain't shit boxes either.

They will eventually have to do something about state pensions, but there is no reason to make any real assumptions about something no one can predict the timing or outcome of and if you have additional retirement funds on top of it you will hopefully be ok should anything happen. However, you, or at least your wife, will almost assuredly regret the decision to not have children. It might not happen until it is to late, but you won't find many elderly people who are glad they ended up as biological dead ends.
