>boomer boss promised me a raise
>have to remind him over weeks about it
>today he finally set up a meeting asking how much
>i say 25% more
>says he has to speak with hr first tomorrow
Did he bait me? Did he plan this so he can fire me tomorrow?

Boomers will dangle raises and promotions in front of you all the time

>> No.16532505

companies large enough to have HR departments have rules about merit increases. he probably wants to understand what's within his realm of control, or if the request needs to be escalated (and how high), and if he would want to do that for you or not.

>> No.16532538

>>16532505
I would have expected him saying no 25% is too much how about 15% or something
isnt this how you negotiate?

>> No.16533015

>>16532538
He probably doesn't know what's possible until he asks. HR departments and top mgmt control that shit a lot more than the middle manager plebs.

That’s not all they’ll dangle if ya know what I mean

He'll come back with an offer of 5%. This is how boomers work..

>> No.16533082

25% is a bit aggressive. But you should have an idea of what's reasonable based on the salary range for your title.

This. He'll say "Best we can do is 5% right now, but remind me again in 6 months and I'll try to get that higher. Keep up the good work champ!"

please post his lowball offer when you find out. I'd be willing to bet it's no more than 5%

25% seems much but I enteres below average, with that it would be above average. I just thought it would be the best way to get the max out of it because who knows if I get offered another raise or will just get the yearly 2% for the rest of my life.

>> No.16533256

>>16533226
Raises are always based on starting salary. It's how they lock you in at a lower rate

>> No.16533308

>>16533226
25% isn't unreasonable if you did enter below average pay, if you have been pulling your weight or excelling. I would go in there, ask for 25%, be willing to accept 15 or 20%.

My advice to you is this, next time have another job offer lined up before you try to negotiate. You can walk in, tell them a recruiter from ABC Corp offered you XYZ dollars and you love working her but you need more money to spend on pajeet ponzi schemes. They either a) match or b) you leave.

>zoomer asking for a 25% raise

has your productivity increased 25%? have you become 25% more efficient at your job? do you make the company 25% more?

jesus, unless you're making $6 an hour, you don't ask for a 25% raise unless there's a reason.

>> No.16533339

>>16532538
maybe he just has to talk to hr, maybe he's just letting you stew in preparation for a much lower offer

The most likely answer is that he forgot because he’s too busy fucking trap hookers with his big boomer dick.

I would have liked to set up another job but that doesnt work out if they let you wait for weeks and months.
My BIGGEST mistake was accepting a job with a below average salary. Even if you are happy as a need to get such a job, once you see Stacy doing nothing all day earning 50% more than you that frustrates the shit out of me.

>> No.16534162

>>16534139
It really isn’t, depending on the situation. In OP’s case where he undersold himself and took a lower pay, applied himself and gave the company essentially a 25% discount on his services, it isn’t unreasonable.
>t. Did the exact same thing as op and got a 25% raise last month lol.

>> No.16534472

It's the current year and the current economy. Get the raise you deserve. If boomer won't give it to you, find a competitor who will.

I think everyone ends up working for less than they're worth initially. it takes a few years of getting fucked over before you get meaner, stop caring and start ripping people off yourself. the only way to get ahead sadly.

>> No.16535972

best way to get a raise is to get a better job offer and give your boss a chance to beat it. either way you win.

Unironically this. There’s a certain point where you truly learn your tangible value. For me, that’s when I found out even though I earned 46k/yr, the company was billing 225/hr for my time.

I dunno, I'm starting at 65k and will get a raise to 70k in 6 months. That feels about right for my degree just out of college.

dumb cunt. You get the raise or you shop for another job.
