Doesn't the staking sound a lot like Bitconnect? Just Hodl some coins and get paid?

you don't just "hodl some coins" and get paid. you need to be actively running a node with processing power proportional to the amount of ether staked.

for 10 nodes, you would need a server rack running 24/7 with redundancies in place to prevent downtime...
